Can I just not have an emergency fund if I have lots of wealth in my personal brokerage account and could sell it immediately? I feel like I'm wasting so much potential profit here, I have like $15k to spare in my emergency fund and the rest is in index funds and they keep rising and rising and rising and my $15k is doing nothing

Not much of an emergency fund if it's not fast cash

i think about that a lot too, but i think its a good psychological imposition cuz it really forces you to view yourself as a business with risk parameters, etc
Put it in an interest bearing account. It won't be huge gains like an investment, but it's better than not having an emergency fund.
10-15k is not a whole lot of money just keep it. Consider your sideline money if the market crashes.

That's the trade off you make. The key is liquidity, if you're in an emergency you don't want to have to deal with a broker to process your request, wait for the money to be transferred, you want it accessible as close to instantly as possible.
The premium you pay for that luxury is not being able to earn profit on it.
Otherwise, fly by the seat of your pants: have no emergency fund. Hope for the best.
