Why do people say that cryptos are more like gambling than an investment?
The big players have been substantially rising in value for the last year; what does daily or weekly volatility matter if the price will still go up in terms of months?
they're talking about trading, because nobody has the crystal ball so you're just taking a punt on price movements. yes you can analyze and use whatever system you like, same as you can do on any horse race
Nocoiners just trying to justify why they haven't invested yet.

Because it's speculation. The money you spend on bitcoin isn't used for anything productive. All it does is encourage miners to mine more bitcoin. When you invest in stocks, the money is used to grow the business. It has productive use.

I plan more on holding than trading, but assuming the coin isn't a complete shit, why not just buy the dip and sell at the peak?
And if we want to compare it to gambling: when you gamble you usually either win or lose all, whereas with currencies you'll only lose a fraction if it drops, just like with normal stocks? Excluding total lack of liquidity but that would require a complete crash I presume.
So it shouldn't be that bad especially if you buy low.

but you can buy things with bitcoin, and what about Ethereum and the projects based on its code, they seem to be promising enterprises for the future

I don't see how that applies to any of the cryptos that are shooting for productive use. I consider any investment to be something of a gamble, or any gamble to be something of an investment. With crypto the risk is high sure, but to try and differentiate it from any mainstream investment by calling it gambling is just fucking pompus

Yeah well I just hold things that I think COULD have a big future, the movements in between are more brutal than you're going to generally see in stocks but they're mostly irrelevant to me, what I'm really interested in is can one of these really get off the ground. It's all still a bet of course, I just think the odds are outstanding.

>Why do people say that cryptos are more like gambling than an investment?
Because they're shit gamblers. Anything with good returns is going to be risky.

Nocoiners trying to convince themselves that cryptos are tulips, these same luddite idiots will be the ones screeching for regulations because their stupid asses missed out.

Bitcoin is being used in drug trade and ETH has a use as a future tech for businesses. Then there's avoiding paying taxes and all of that.
