/biz/, how do you get new customers for your tiny businesses? I opened my little decorating company in London over a year ago, and even though I'm good and people recommend me, I still don't have enough customers to make me busy constantly. I tried with leaflets, business cards, internet ads or leaving cards in shops, but it doesn't work. How can I expand my customer range?

Keep pushing, get good SEO that geolocates, make sure you have positive presence on yelp and appropriate home decor sites. Leaflets with savings sounds great. Keep going anon, marketing to the point where you just create business is like a treadmill.

The problem is that from the moment I get the customer, everything is fine. Our working standard is quite high, we have good and specialistic tools like airless compressors etc. and we are quite cheap compared to similar standard. My customers usually recommend me to friends and I get enough jobs to survive and pay my 1-2 workers, but not enough to spread the wings in any way. I get a lot of customers through other builders (like carpenters who don't do decorating stuff), but then I need to pay them their share...

My problem is how to reach new customers, because the leaflets and business cards simply dont work and to show someone your portfolio, you need to meet this person first.

Get involved in social groups. Football team, political party, business club,...

Don't go in promoting yourself. Just be a nice guy and realize everyone in that group will need a carpenter at some point. Or their mom will. Or the business they work for.

Most important thing is good seo. Need to get a good website, and get some kind of buzz around it,

One idea would be to accept bitcoin and get your site listed on all the lists of companies that accept bitcoin of which there are many, it will give you better backlinks than 99% of decorators.

Also, get a gumtree ad and pay the £5 to have a website link on the listing, even if you dont bump the ad the listing will remain providing a good backlink.

Try your hardest to do something newsworthy and get a writeup in a newspaper website and try and get a backlink that way. A backlink to a news website is worth 100 yelp links.
