Is the "u miss 100% of the shots you dont take" meme true when it comes to jobs?

Should I just start sending out resumes to places I don't even match in education or experience and just nail the interview if it comes up?

Can this really work? Should I stop ignoring "minimum 5 years experience" and apply anyway?
