Always evaluate the cost benefit. I give my employees a ton of slack and my customers get treated very nicely, even when they are wrong.
Not because im nice, but because I can determine that the cost of terminating an employee and replacing has a cost drastically greater than them being 15min late or damaging a product. Alternatively, standing my ground with a shit customer over $15 isn't worth my time when I can concede the issue and move on to profitable customers more rapidly.

My experience is that it's good if people call you an asshole. Shows that you aren't everybody's bitch
