/biz/ how much should you be making at 28?

I feel like I am way behind at 50k.

What can I invest it to improve my situation?

I then should kill myself scoring in at 80k end of 2017 at 37, right?

nope, I trade on the news.
Takes me between 1 minute and an hour per day when there is a good news.
No need to waste more time looking at the markets all day long like a dumbfuck.

best news site? best news topics? (company joinings)

Im assuming you rode JNUG after the fed balance sheet announcement.

Also, how do you predict things like PLUG and amazon contract. Doesn't that come out of nowhere?
>>
I'm making 36k @ 27, but I have about 150k in the bank, which pretty good.

It's a bit disconcerting that most of my investments regularly swing more than I make in a single day @ work.
>>
>>1933621
pretty damn risky though (assuming you're not LARPing and assuming you aren't using an HFT algorithm) - the reactions to any data points like these are "instant" nowadays so you either have to have very good insight into what the data will be before it appears or you'll end up losing just as much as you make averaged over long periods of time.
>>
>>1933628
I use myfxbook and dailyfx
but sometimes one have news and the other doesn't have them, so better keep several websites to be sure to see everything.
>>
>>1933633
>the reactions to any data points like these are "instant" nowadays
that's the good part, I trade a minute before the news, put my stop loss, so in case I'm wrong I lose like nothing. But most of the time I anticipate the news correctly.
You need balls of steel when you start but after a few months it's alright.
>>
>>1933565
Making $56k at 20. I'm pretty sure in your 20s, your work environment and potential for advancement is more important than your salary.

That the hard part, it took me several months to see what news move the market, but when you see that, then you can pretty make money nearly everyday.

for example, take this news AUD, the graph will be in the next picture.
>>
File: AUD interest rate.png (103KB, 1912x968px) Image search: [Google]
AUD interest rate.png
103KB, 1912x968px
The interest rate was anticipated to stay unchanged.
So the AUD would drop and what happened...
it dropped against the GBP, EUR, CAD, USD...
but mainly against the GBP.
On the graph the bars go up because it's the GBP that appreciates against AUD falling.

On this one 58 pips profit (really easy) in less than 30 minutes, with what I trade (10 volumes) it's ~ 5600$ (2 pips spread or $200 spread)

You can put your stop loss at 10 or 15 pips depending on you risk aversion.

And that's how it works for me. No magic, just logic.
>>
File: news 3.png (4KB, 1196x44px) Image search: [Google]
news 3.png
4KB, 1196x44px
Another example.
3rd april, small news on the GBP again.
Bad for the GBP, so it drops.
look what happened (next picture)
>>
File: GBPUSD.png (94KB, 1915x968px) Image search: [Google]

94KB, 1915x968px
took about 3 bars or less than 45 minutes to make ~ $ 2,900

future news.png
23KB, 1202x240px
For example, I can tell you something will happen on the GBPUSD and EURGBP the 7th April.

Not all news move the market, if you take one news or two per week it's way more than enough, at least for me.

I hope I make myself clear.

>>
>>1934661
Honestly, for the most part they don't get paid as well as I do. I got pretty lucky.

My main recommendation would be to do a stint as a consultant in either analytics or corporate strategy. That really gets your foot in the door at a lot of places and can look very impressive on a resume. It also teaches you how to speak to executives if you happen to be more of an analytical type like I am.

The technical bar isn't actually that high: while I know about a dozen tools/programming languages at this point, I basically work with Tableau, Excel, and SQL 95% of the time, and could probably get away with it 100% of the time.

Explain me one thing:

Wages seem so much higher in the Us then here in Europe, yet your companies stay competitive? How come?
We have very highly educated people in my country, yet median wages is 45k and average 29k.

I myself am much better off than most my aged (27) and I earn only 57k which is shit compared to the Us.
>>
>>1935793
I've always wondered the same.
>>
>>1935793
>>1935979
They aren't: the median household income in the US is around 50k.

There are, however, a lot more tech, finance and fintech jobs than in most European countries, and those pay well (at least low 6 figures.)

28 making 22k a year
Feels bad man
>>
>>1937052
And that's usually on a double income, man and wife scenario.

OP making 50k a year at 28 puts him way ahead of most of his peers, in fact, it puts him way ahead of most people in the US in general.

But it's all relative to your money in and money out. I make 38k a year while my GF makes 45k. I save $1500 a month and she lives paycheck to paycheck because of student loans, car, etc, whereas I didn't take loans, etc.

I know people making 100-120k a year that don't save as much as I do, so it's all relative.

Does the price ever blow past the stop loss. Let's say your trading jnug for example and you assume the adp non farm payroll is really good and the dollar goes up and gold plummets. So say a minute before this comes out you buy 1000 shares of jnug at 6.50 and set your stop loss at let's say 6.40. Is there ever a time where it wouldn't sell at 6.40 and say it would sell at like 6.00 or something like that?
>>
>>1940443
i'm not that guy, and i don't know what jnug is but, if there isn't enough liquidity in a particular market/stock the price can jump through your stop, yes.

In your example, since your stoploss is at 6.40 if there is no one willing to buy your shares at 6.40 you will be quoted the next price there are buyers. in your example buyers come in at 6.00

50k is the starting salary for an average college grad (age 22) with middling grades and no connections. So yeah. You're way behind.

In this day and age you should be hitting six figures before age 30 if you aren't totally inept. "Six figures" still has a lot of cachet attached to it, but keep in mind that was in the 1980s. $100,000 in 2017 has the same buying power as $50,000 in 1989 and $33,000 in 1980. It's small potatoes these days. Top grads from in-demand majors are starting at 100k (I started at 100k + 125k signing bonus).

I'm 29 and earn $150k.

There is no 'should make'. If you're saving at a good clip and can live comfortably, you can be happy with $10k.

I'm pushing myself to earn more because I want fuck-you money, and I want to be able to just take time to enjoy life and spend time not working when my kids are old enough to remember it. Right now I don't have kids, so it's not too much of a sacrifice to put in long hours and put away big savings. I'm up to about a quarter million in overall savings (tax advantaged and taxable accounts) so far, and fully intend to have a million by the time I hit 35. Then I'll probably relax a little, take a lower stress job, maybe take a couple months off, and coast into retirement at 45 on a $100k salary with my house paid off and $2M in the bank.

Absolutely. Already have the Jap shit box, paying off the house now, and investing the rest of the excess in index funds through both tax advantaged and taxable accounts.

My dad is a financial planner, so he hammered home the importance of saving early on. I went to a state school with a scholarship to keep education costs down, worked my way through school to avoid debt, had $20k in an IRA at 21, and got my first gig out of school at 22 making $40k.

>>1942266
Take on additional responsibility in the right opportunity. Find a career that has a clear progression path, and has a need for skilled leaders. I chose information security, but there are other jobs in other industries that can work equally well.

Who you work for is just as important as what you do, though. Make sure your employer values your contribution, or find a new employer that does. "Job hopping = bad" is a meme, possibly the worst one you can possibly take seriously. Just make sure all your moves offer more responsibility or significantly more money.

motherfucker I live and breathe this market. Just because you don't have the dedication and willpower to ever make anything of yourself doesn't mean everyone else is a piece of shit like you too. check the news and you'll see that GBP aka great Britain pound is releasing a shit ton of data a couple hours from now and I'll be making 500 minimum in the morning. ask me anything I'll be here for a while

>Stop loss
Stop loss is not the solution to everything. A stock could gap down. i.e you put a stop loss at £50 but the stock opens at £30, and your shares would be sold at £30. You can either wait for a recovery or the best thing to do imo is average down. Keep buying more stock until your average price paid is the same as the current stock price and sell out on recovery.

Ive learned an expensive lesson with stop losses when i was buying property development shares and the brexit happened.

Index funds are pretty meh. If you have some money you're better off shadow indexing and then choosing a certain amount of your portfolio to manage actively.

Even if you fully shadow an index, you're at least beating it by the expense ratio.

26, hit 100k net worth two months ago. Make around 120k/year. I don't feel rich though when entry level houses start at like 500k. Unless its some shit rotting shack in the woods. So even when making a supposedly medium-high salary I'd have to leverage my entire life savings 4x on a single real estate property to own a home. Why are houses so damn expensive?
>>
>>1945909

How could you beat an index fund with like 0.15% expense ratio, shadowing in broker account?

Make 60k goose dollars at 28, rent like a cuck, and have a semi-dependant gf. Got a bit of cash in a TFSA and a RRSP, and an econobox car, but thats it.

Moral of the story - don't be me. And if you study Comp sci - don't go to work unless its for Google/Amazon/Microsoft/Intel/Facebook, do your own thing instead.

How much you make depends upon where you live. Six figures can be difficult to live off of if you work in San Francisco.

what are reliable resources to learn enough to get to that point? aside from simulators

I got the funds and time to get into this as of yesterday
>>
>>1945964
personally, I did trial and error until i understood the market. Read the wiki in investopedia and go get your hands dirty. Best way to learn is to just get in there. start off with 100 account tho.
>>
>>1945972
and about how much time do you spend doing your analysis? daily
>>
>>1945934
Well consider the following, you are still being charged a fee to buy index funds and the like. More so, depending on what the fee is and how much money you're investing that 0.15% can easily outweigh the cost of purchasing other stocks. Roughly every $4,000 you invest, comes out to one transaction in terms of fees, given that you're in a low broker fee account.

Other things that play a roll are things like free trades based on funds held in accounts. Once you hit a certain threshold you get a certain number of free trades a month. In other cases, there are platforms that do not have fees (Loyal 3 is one I've heard of but never used).

It really comes down to how much you're investing, how much you have to invest, and how you distribute your investments.
>>
>>1945992
Well I stare at it all day so I like know where it's at constantly. You'll learn to love it. But I spend like 15 mins before getting into a trade

Americans earn more because their expenses are much higher. tax rates in MD state comeout to ~42% all said and done and then you have to pay medical and generally a more expensive life style. also very limited retirement build up. I know people who paid 20k pm for medical after they got retired! in reality the average American would like Western Europe if they give it an unbiased try.

But to be honest I can see some smart anons trading and being frugal can make serious bank.

I'm 29 now and earn about 70 kEUR and my wife 60. our house appreciated 100k last 2 years. all debts paid and slowly building up real reserves. around 25k now. looking to invest so I check up on biz once in a while

Nigga your like euro me.

I make $120k AUD at 29, two properties that went up a collective $150k last year and sitting on $30k in stocks.

Considering moving to the USA to make some greenbacks - I think I could get the same salary in USD and with a lower cost of living.
I will have a stronger resume/talent stack than most of the lazy entitled millennials who haven't cracked mgmt so I like my odds.

Have 1/3 of student loans paid, have a 2017 car, and have been saving up about 1K a month so I'm in good shape for now.

This is the most cucked sentence I've read in a while.

I make about 115-120k at age 29.

i only recently started looking into investing, stocks, etc after having just bought a house last year/recouping my savings.

treating "investing" as a quick income bump seems like a great way to waste your income, but i'm a newfag on /biz/
