I guess you lads know some excel.
Can I make macros not be specific to certain cells? So that I can paste figures from a source, run a macro to organize, then paste new figures and run the macro but in a way that the organized figures end up in another place instead of overwriting the first figures?

Use the 'record' macro tool. It will record every action you take, making a macro of it.

I did, but the macro seemed locked to the specific cells I recorded.

There should be a way to do what you want. You are just going to have to play around a bit.
Just use Application.ActiveCell range.
>organized figures end up in another place
Just use some cell to designate destination. How else your macro would know were you want to output shit?
I may or may not be five years old and in need of better explanations.
Also, is there a way I can reenable the ctrl+z function?

Aha.
Toggle "Use relative references".
