AMD MOONING edition

-- Robinhood FAQs --
- VISIT THE WEBSITE FIRST DAMMIT!! - www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
"People" invest your settled funds when you're not using them, just like banks.

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

> I hit sell when the stock was X.XX, but it actually sold at a lower price, why?
Robinhood graphs are shit and only show you an average, not true real-time prices. To get Bid/Ask prices and important things like candlestick graphs, you should use a more robust platform.

> Where can I get better charting or bid/ask?
Real brokers, like TDAmeritrade's thinkorswim. Otherwise you should be using tradingview.com, stockcharts.com, finviz.com, or a non-pile-of-shit for your graphing in addition to Robinhood.

I spend waaaay too much time here, it's easy to keep tab open while at work and check things out throughout the day and doesn't use alot of data. Glad I missed VHC week or month or whatever it was. I came in at the end when VHC was like $7 and didnt get into it and when everyone was posting suicide memes after. Summer was great for moonmissions overall tho, alot of fun. I saw someone posted a few nokobro memes about a month ago. He probably changed his trip or something after. Guess that's what sucks for tripfags, they make 1 bad call out of 5 and thread gets derailed by anon's trashing them.

well anon I just got approved on Robinhood yesterday so I was very excited to make the right trade the first time.

I started with one share of JAGX at 1.06 at 12 EST and was hoping it would rebound to the earlier highs in the morning, sold it for 1.05

I then tried to find a stock that was doing better in previous days after lunch EST, with a break midday. To me, the best indicator of that was COOL, and I could see it riding up so I got in at 13.50 at 1pm EST. Truth be told, It went down from there to about 13,40 and I was nervous so I feel like I got extraordinarily lucky that it went up to 14.0 where it is now.
I don't really know what I'm doing, I'm just a stoned /pol/ack watching volumes and volatility to try and make smart decisions.

I'm hoping to invest more money when I get a hang of culling to build gains. also, learn to use limit orders to lower your anxiety going in

my advice is always
Set a stop limit on very trade based on what you consider acceptable losses. I set sell limits as well based on several variables. Its not always the top of the graph, but its better to get consistent profits rather than occasional maximum profits

It's Friday and I wanted thank all of you. This ends my first full week trading on Robinhood, and while I haven't gotten a seat on a moon mission yet (or played in penny stocks - I don't plan to), I was able to make some good gains this past week both in realized and un-realized forms. Picked a couple of good stocks that I'm going to hold semi-long term (AMD, BAC), and had my two forays into JNUG, make me an average of 6%.

Looking forward to our continued partnership /rhg/. Have a wonderful weekend!

I did good with JNUG myself. Since I can't day trade, I bought in right at the end of the day on two days it went down significantly and sold mid-day the following day when it had recovered 5-6%. I need to do some research to see if that's a common occurrence, but I figured people wouldn't keep selling at a low the day after it went down.

I made a spreadsheet comparing examining this very phenomon and, long story short, you got lucky. There are plenty of days where JNUG goes down 2-5 times in a row. there was even a point where it went down 6% one day then 28% the next.

I know I lucked out, not that I would have made or lost that much money with only 100 shares at a play. But, looking over the trends, it's about as low as it has been so it made sense that anyone who was already spooked about getting out would have already done so. Therefore, those left wouldn't be selling "low", instead wanting it to head back up.

Just took a look and found something interesting if you want to validate it.

For JNUG since 8/25/2016:
The stock has closed lower 75 times (out of 151 trading days)
The day after closing lower, the stock has closed higher 42 times.
Of those 42 times, the stock has gained more 5% or more 39 times.

Just food for thought.

Thanks for the idea, I'll run some numbers.

I have stats all the way back to 2013; when JNUG was founded. 878 days. I'm only missing the last few because I havent gotten around to updating it yet.

I have 74, so 75 is probably right considering yesterday. All time I have 445 out of 878 closing down (or 446 out of 880 if you count the last two days.).

The 42 number is also correct. Historically, its 242 out of 445. A rate of about 54%.

Your last point seems wrong though; I only have 22 times in that time frame. To see who is right, confirm whether its true for these 4 dates: 3/6/17-3/7/17, 2/22/17-2/23/17,2/15/17-2/16/17,2/13/17-2/14/17. That's four examples where its not true. If your statistic were true, there couldn't be more than three examples. Still, that's a decent 53% rate. The historical is even higher at almost 60%!

So maybe this method has legs. Let me calculate the result of this method. To clarify, our method is "if JNUG is down at close, buy then sell at close tomorrow" we'll assume we did this everyday since JNUG was founded (and we'll calculate from 8/25/2016 too)." We'll assume we start with 2000 bucks (since that's the robinhood starting value for gold accounts and all around a good newbie starting investment). If you did it from the beginning (when JNUG first started), your 2000 bucks would have turned into ~117 bucks. Ouch. Even if you started at 8/25/2016, you still end up losing with a end result of 1385.78.

You can keep doing this if you wish, but you're probably going to end up losing in the long run.
Days like 12/15/2016 will blow you out. same with 2/27/2017.

well, yeah of course it influences my trades.

I figure if something is a good trade on the face of it (discounting individual market factors that change day to day like random news and shit) then if I combine market news with that strategy I'll probably win.

Conversely, it keeps me from buying into ideas that sound good on the face of it but don't really add up (like above). For the most part, it keeps me from buying into investments that will lose me money. It's hard to find something that will consistently make you money.

>>
>>1919839
I can calculate that too, but realize all you're doing is adding a bunch of negative movements to your total.

So you're saying if it's red 2 days in a row, hold until its green? Or is there a point where I should sell, even in red?

I'll do it first assuming we hold it until its green. Assuming we have 2000 to start again, and we invested the day JNUG opened, we would have 1/1000th of a penny today. If we did it from 8/25/2016, we would have 44 dollars left.

In other words, the bagholding method is worse, which is why I didn't do in the first place. All you're doing is compounding your losses.
>>
JNUG is wrecking my pussy
>>
>>1920671
Jnug and Jdst constantly fall in value so yes theyre only good when you day trade it.
>>
Too late to get in on AMD?
>>
>>1920694
No, gonna be $20-25 at the end of the yr.
>>
>>1920644
I can check it with averaging down.

The idea would be we would invest only enough initially so that we could "double down" a certain number of days. If we invested a quarter of our money initially, then we could double down 3 days in a row. So we would start at 500, if the stock is down the next day, put in another 500 for a thousand total, and if its down the day after that, put in out last 1000. Unfortunately, that's still a loss, ending up with 438 bucks. still a lot better than straight up bagholding though.

>>1920487
its less about how often it goes up and more about how much it goes up relative to how much it goes down.

big money is made swing trading. day trading is like sort of like counting cards. its a headache for smaller gains usually, but its necessary to learn to get the best positions for least amount of risk. swing trading will give you much bigger payload with less headache. learn to swing trade
>>
>>1921812
Got a small position at the end of last week, will be adding more when I get some funds
>>
>>1920543

Very few people in these threads have the capital to truly day trade as the SEC requires 25k in your account, whether it be pure cash or cash + stock value to be allowed to day trade. Otherwise you are restricted to 3 trades per 5 business days.

Swing trading is what most people do. They buy a stock that they see signs of being on an upward trend, and then hold it from anywhere to a few days to a few weeks, then sell it off. It's nice, for the fact that you don't have to sit and watch numbers all day, but the downside it has in comparison to daytrading is that you have to wait for the trend to fully kick in, so your timeline isn't always set. You can't just say, "I'll sell 3 days from now" because the trend may not kick in to a decently profitable level until a week's time. Now if you have a large amount of capital, it can be enough to live on, but most people in this thread are either dicking around or using the money made as supplemental income, so yes it can be profitable if you are good are it. Or you can lose money if you chase it.

I use suretrader because I get unlimited day trades. With them I opened a $1000 account and have a $6000 buying power, which is great if you are day trading and practicing good risk management. I definitely wouldn't recommend it outside of day trading though, too much risk

RCII is a good stock. Mark Speese was the original CEO that undersaw the company's huge surge in value, and they brought him back as CEO to fix up the current mess. If you had been watching it about 2-3 months ago, it was sub $8s. Now it is getting ready to break $10. Though it isn't like your normal /rgt/ stocks were you see it blast through and gain 50% in one day. It's a slow and steady stock.

Add AKAM to your watchlist. RSI is looking oversold as fuck and if the dip lasts a few days it could put fuel in the rocket. They're down because of an acquisition but they are a profitable company that consistently beats earnings.

Don't miss this rocket

im shilling GILD. I know its a $60 stock but it was 120+ in july and had a few hiccups in the pipeline but its new HIV med is its "mount everest" according to motley fool. im holding especially with obamacare still in the fold where big pharma reaps the fruits.

Also, "Another pipeline candidate with a lot of promise is JAK1 inhibitor filgotinib. The drug is being evaluated in late-stage studies for treatment of three indications: Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and ulcerative colitis. The worst-case scenario would be for filgotinib to flop in those studies."

Every time. Think the trick is to buy lots of stocks that look promising and put <$50 in them.. Then double down on the profitable ones from those picks
>>
fuck it. all in on AEZS. $3 stock with phase 3 trial for cancer due eom. look at all the phase 3 companies and theyre $30-80 a piece. this is a rare, affordable option for greatness. management is shady but yahoo has nothing but BUY recommendations.

PT for today is $12. Definitely room to run. This is their first bit of good news in a long time

Fuck DRYS, SSW is superior in every way.

>Dividend coming up soon.
>Has insulation against drops in demand by using long term contract to divvy out their ships.
>Is relatively cheap, but not at any risk of bankruptcy or running out of cash.
>Has rallied the last 4 days in a row after a downward spiral sunk much of its earnings.
>It is on the verge of a recovery.

Im looking at AKTX and NVCR right now.

AKTX was an easy move up from friday. Holding its gains into the AH was a good sign. Keeping an eye on it this week.

NVCR is moving big in the premarket, watching to see how it moves on open.
