What? I dont understand. Even if you're poor, having a place to put the money is infinitely easier than using a check cashing joint since those places usually take 15% off your check just to cash it right there.

Former poor fag here. Like reaaalllly poor poor fag. Damn near homeless.

You wanna know what poor people do?

> take public transportation to work, walk home

> smoke butts you find on the ground

> donate plasma for about $15/session (BUT THE ADVERTISEMENT SAID $50!!)

> stand in line at a church to get a box of free food

> smoke hella resin

> no really poor people can't afford weed, we buy dime bags here and there but you scrape resin for the most part

> you've hit rock bottom pothead status when you wake up at 10:14 am on a Tuesday and the first thought in your head is "I have absolutely nothing to do today" so you sneak into your roommates room and scrape and smoke *his* resin

> then jerk off half high

> this is the best part of today, it all goes downhill

> try not to think about killing yourself

> watch daytime tv

> watch late night tv

> go on random walks with no purpose

> brush their teeth with water

> apologize to people just because you walked past them

> supress screams
>>
>>1910280
former poorfag here, two reasons

bouncing checks, which poor people often do, puts them into check system. basically means that person can't open a checking account at any bank in the US until the check and fees are paid back

court judgments, again which poor people often have against them, can be used to wipe out any open account with a cash balance in it to pay the debt

>>1910284
they're using the grocery store because they may charge 3% to cash a check vs 15% at a check cashing place.

The only legitimate case where leasing is acceptable is if you need a car for longer than would be feasible from the average weekly-basis car rental place but don't need to buy. Such as a really long business trip in an area you're flying to.

Outside of that the only reason why 99% of leases happen is because losers want to appear rich and "be driving something new every time they see someone"
>>
>>1910249
> rent tires
i've never even heard of that. is this an american thing?

poor and stupid. The smart niggers stock up on EBT, welfare, section 8, the food bank even gives away free fucking food every so often.

I know these goddamn welfare niggers, they live like kings. You literally have to be extremely stupid, or drugged out to actually be that broke.

>>
>>1910340
You are so full of shit.

After I climbed out of the gutter I got a state job and irony of ironies wound up working for Adult & Family Services (food stamp and welfare office)

First of all there is no such universally quantifiable thing as "welfare". There used to be but "welfare" was eradicated in the late 90's. Welfare used to mean, give jobless people money. Done.

Today there is "TANF". Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. To get free cash (formerly "welfare") you have to:
- have kids who live with you
- earn less than $1000/month
- look for work or go to education or training for a better situation

No matter how shitty your situation is, you get thrown off at 60 months.

Mandatory 2 year waiting period for new TANF case once you get off TANF. Even if the new job or whatever only lasted a few months. Whether your first TANF case was 6 weeks or 5 years, once you're off, your second case doesn't start until 2 years later

If your kids grow up or move out or get fostered out you will lose TANF (it's only for "families")

***
These are federal laws that have withstood many lawsuits from many states

I used to smoke resin when i was a teenager and ran low on cash, but i never understood why anybody would smoke discarded cig butt. One of my friends used to do that and it was disgusting. Its not like weed and cigs are as crippling addicting like alcohol or heroin and ill never understand how somebody can lack the will power to give those things up even temporarily to allow more room to better their situation.

The bubble won't pop unless people can't make their payments. Unless the loans are structured as interest only for several years or the payments increase, anything short of a recession won't burst the bubble. If there is a recession, most everything suffer, including the auto sales whether they are financed or not.

What will happen is a slowdown in auto sales since alot of cars are financed and financed at abnormally long terms (7 years vs the typical 3-5). The banks backing the loans may suffer a bit as well.

Ford and the smart companies will adjust because they see the slowdown coming. The retarded companies won't. Extreme downturns occur when most people don't see a massive change occurring. If Ford's CEO is coming out and publicly acknowledging a future downturn, they'll be fine.

Eating at home isn't free. For me it's typically more expensive than eating out. A nice curry or roast costs about $15-$20 and is about 3-4 serves, all but 1 served cold and dried out from fridge.

Taco Bell tripple crunch wrap box is $5 served warm and gooey.

Jimmy John's is about $8...

So at worst, eating out might be $1-$2 more expensive than eating in.

At best it saves $3

Why poor people don't use banks:
>Bank is not convenient (can't walk there)
>Bank has monthly account maintenance fees, and/or
>Bank requires minimum balance
>overdraft fees
>returned check fees
>ATM withdrawal fees
>balance transfer fees

Seriously, do you even have a checking account? All of that shit is bogus jew bullshit that banks cash in huge on. Fee income on deposit accounts is seriously like 60% of the average commercial bank's revenue. It's insane.

For most people leasing is not a good choice. It becomes better than owning when you start looking at cars above the 50k purchase price with large depreciation values.

Like owning a lambo typically is not that great of a choice when you can lease it for a few years, put alot of wear and tear on it for much less and give it back without losing half its value instead just paying depreciation of about 1/4th.

But yes owning a civic and driving it until its dead is a much better investment than leasing it unless there are spectacular lease deals every 2-3 years and recurring bonus for getting another.

Like I just leased a Kia optima for 2 years @ 150 a month and like a grand down. EZ decision. Get to rent a car for 6$ a day. and dont have to take care of it for shit really.

Im not opening up a Savings Account until interest rates go up.

You literally have no idea how many scams these fucking people pull off. It's actually kind of brilliant.

I know this one family that gets double benefits because one of their kids is classified as an autistic... adult who's 30 years old. They get approximately $2k a month just from that. They double dip because they get "caretaker" money and SS benefits. They also rent a room and make another $600 a month. To top it all off they get EBT, unemployment benefits because the wife works on and off jobs.

I know of another guy who is on """"disability"""" from the army and gets a big fat pension, I believe it's 80% of his pay because he fucking faked an injury and got an honorable discharge for threatening to kill himself and some other issues that are total bullshit. I literally know 4 people with similar stories ranging from age 20 to 50.

Another man I know got cancer and eventually recovered. 6 years later he's still listed as "disabled" because he was able to convince the state he's always sick and needs disability and medical assistance, which he admits is bullshit. He rents out a place, and, thanks to rent control, ends up paying $0 in rent because he rents out the other two rooms to pay for his rent.

To top this all off, all of these people openly brag about it. They won't brag about it to you because you're a useful idiot bureaucrat, but the rest of us actually know what's going on and the big fat drain these leeches are on our system.

Maybe anecdote, but there's probably more scammers than you think and getting the city/state to figure out who's cheating them is easier said than done.

I've got a hispanic neighbor who is a good employee, but he's complained to me that he often sees hispanic women get hired at his workplace. They work just a few days and then quit. He asked one of them why, and they told him that to keep getting benefits they had to work or try to find work periodically. When the minimum number of days was reached the women would quit.

I have had other hispanic neighbors that brag about making the rounds to various food pantries throughout the city; had it all planned out on where to go. They would let their garbage bins spill over and often you could see large amounts of wasted and partially eaten food. Other families would get lots of church-donated clothes and housewares; they would then sell these or throw it all away when they moved.

I recall a story that seemed to quickly get buried. City garbage men collecting trash in primarily black areas were surprised by how many broken toys and games they were finding right after Christmas. Toys for Tots and similar programs likely provided many of those toys.

I just opened a checking account that pays 1% APY, reimburses any ATM fee, and comes with a debit card. Why the fuck would I keep money in a savings account?

I did used to pick up bus passes off the ground and use them.

You can also sell expired day passes, normies don't know how to read the date punch holes. I hate that word btw, "normies"

Haha that's something else poor people do. Chastise socio-normative behavior, debase and stereotype the day-to-day social and working class, claim to be in a position of authority because "I'm not a sellout" or whatever.

While secretly envying economic and social comfort.

The word "normie" wasn't slang when I was poor but if it had been I'm sure I'd have used it, unironically. That's why I laugh when I go to /pol/ and someones like "you're a normie" I'm like "ha ha, you're poor"

It takes one to know one. Amirite?

But yea. When you're poor you look for bus passes on the ground because you can use them now and sell them to normies once they expire.

>Toys for Tots and food pantries aren't welfare
No, but they're programs that public and private citizens donate their time, money, and effort to. And then you have people who take advantage of that and don't need, or don't value the things they are given. It's possible this mentality is passed down to their children as well, that it's easier to leech than to earn things yourself. Generational dependency?

For what it's worth I witnessed everything in my other post; they were my neighbors. I saw their carloads of food pantry boxes and then the ripped trash bags with barely eaten food spilling out. The garbage can with barely used baby clothes and stroller in it. And I believe my hispanic neighbor because he is an honest hardworking guy. I could see his disgust that people would rather do the bare minimum to keep receiving government aid.

Is it your position that these things aren't very common? People don't have to smugly brag about scamming the system to do it. It can be a simple "if it's there why not take it" mentality. The real cost is people often don't value things as much when they're given rather than earned. The box of Christmas toys that get broken. The piles of baby items and clothes for the child they shouldn't have had. The low income housing that is left filthy and half destroyed when they move out.

It's an unfortunate truth this stuff happens; not all the time but it does. It was an eye opener when I saw it first hand, and it may be the entitlement and dependency mentality that hurts communities the most.

That's just the Federal welfare. There is state and local welfare, more depending on how blue the state is. I've seen niggers with SSI + TANF + state welfare + SNAP + section 8 vouchers + state free electricity/utilities + Obamaphones + Medicaid/Obamacare + other gibs from private charities. Altogether it's worth $5k+/month for doing nothing, and somehow they spend all of it and end up begging you for $5 on the 30th. There are more ways to game the system than you realize.
>>
>>1911223
There's no way cooking at home costs more than eating out. Unless maybe if you're buying specialty organic ingredients from Whole Foods.

I buy all my food from Sam's Club. I usually spend $100-$150 for a whole month.

Eating out at a cheap buffet is financially justifiable because you can fill up on that one meal for the whole day. Some fast food joint, though, is not because the portions are always too small for more than 1/3 of your daily diet.

>>1911716
All the big name national banks won't charge you fees for checking if your balance is over some minuscule threshold like $800. None of the national banks charge for ATM withdrawals. I don't blame the banks for charging you if your balance is below $800 because at that point, it's much more work for them than they are getting in return.

Do you get your groceries from a gas station or why are you doubling the prices for every item except chicken?

That is also not a batch of 3-4 servings. Stop trying to make your expensive fast food habit seem reasonable.
>>
>>1916694

>>
>>1918457
Frys... If those prices are inflated it can't be by more than a few cents. The irony of this thread kills my sides. So many poor people raging at rational cost comparisons. I barely do fast food. My point is that it's neither the more expensive or cheaper option to eating at home. My recipe is approximately 3-4 servings because I'm not a malnourished NEET so you're looking at about $5-$7 per serve. That vs a $5 crunchwrap box from taco bell or $7 big Mac meal or some shit.

But you enjoy your beans

You are really naive.

It's a gov't program call lifeline that started in the 1980's under Reagan to give low-income families telephone service. It's useful, because it hard to get a job if no one can call you. It switch from landline to cell phones in 2008.

I swear while we do have some interesting threads on /biz/ there's a good half the board that seems to bend right over and shit out its brains whenever we come to renting. It's amazing how irresponsible people are and then they use this to justify renting.

So let's just say your leased car shows you a oil warning light and you have enough time to fill it. Do you spend $3, or drive it till it dies and then cite some shit in the lease agreement that you aren't responsible for that and expect it to work out. I mean seriously guys, you must be this fucking retarded to justify renting. You are the only one this irresponsible, that doesn't mean leasing is better.

Banker here and I'm fucking tired of all the bitching so I'm going to break this shit down.

First of all, most banks make their primary revenue off of interest on credit, and fees. Loans and credit cards are the big ticket items, example financing a house or car, and carrying a balance on a credit card. When it comes to fees, sadly they are littered throughout the industry. There are fees for so many things (aka for poor or uneducated people who just don't care about paying for them). Examples are cashiers check fees, check order fees, overdraft fees, atm fees, international fees, merchant processing fees. I agree almost all of them can be avoided but the majority of people are not financially literate.

Now let's get to WHY people pay these fees or why people WOULDN'T have an account.

Most common reason is they just don't qualify. How you may ask? They don't risk screen and owe debts to other banks from overdrawn or collection accounts on credit. Other common reasons are legal pledges or garnishments. Your not going to open an account to put money into it if someone is just going to pledge the account and take all of your funds. So for some people it's easier to pay the check cashing fee and suck it up. You would be amazed at how many people overdraw their account, take cash advances on their credit cards, and use other atms and willingly pay the fees.

Hope this clears this up. If you have questions ask away

Sorry but you seem to be the person who is confused, as are some others who don't bother to actually read the fine print. What's sad to me is your inability to look at world in any other way than you are doing. There are MANY different ways to avoid banking fees, the most efficient way being to avoid fiat currency altogether; i.e. crypto-currencies.

leasing is never good because you end up payinf for 60 percent of the vehicle over 3 years and then end up giving it up anyways, just to do it all over again, you have nothing to show for it and it's the most expensive method of owning a vehicle.
Best method of owning a vehicle is to buy used.

How do I get out of this?
I'm turning 23 on Friday. Just finishing training of my first real job. Last year was really rough - ex left me; dropped out of uni; had peritonitis.

atm I have £20 in the bank, which should be able to afford me a haircut if I find time in the week. I'm not getting my first payslip until 3 days after my bday.
I really want to make a change after everything that happened last year. I know the subconscious mind is everything, but I need to work more on that too.

I'm hoping to learn to drive this year, and spend a bit of money on myself (clothes/teeth whitening).
I'm to put as much money into a savings acc as possible. I'll be earning around £17.5k a year, and will try to spend around £150 a month.

Is £15k a decent amount to be taking home a year, compared to people with decent jobs that have a car and family?
Are savings accounts really as good as they sound? I want to maximise my assets by as much as I can

Godspeed anon, I hope all the best for you, keep going.

Not the anon you're replying to but in my country (Canada) savings accounts aren't really that great. I have a """""high-interest""""" tax free savings account and on ~10k in savings, I make like $50 a year.

So I said fuck that and started getting into stocks. Made double that in a week. I'm aware I can't expect consistent returns and I barely know much about the market, but I'm learning and trying.

you don't need to eat rice and beans to see how much cheaper it can be to eating at home. the problem is you retards are comparing buying higher end ingredients to eating processed garbage from taco bell.

take a mcd's burger, you can buy a half pound of beef patties for like $2, and the cheese/lettuce/bun and other shit won't run you more than maybe an extra $1. it will taste better for a fraction of the cost.

unless you're homeless the only reason eating on a budget = plain rice and beans is because you aren't trying hard enough.
