yep, they are currently trying to support CGI rendering but golem is meant to be a decentralized market for gpu and cpu power.
It's basicly BOINC(which SETI and others used) in which you get payed for your participation.
The only two things stopping me from buying are competitors and possible soykaf codebase. I checked the teams' repositories on github and it scares me that not one of them has published anything else that was meaningful. They are also writing it in python, which i think should never be used in time or security critical applications due to it's dynamically typed nature.
