Suppose that I start up an adult "hookup/meetup" site.
How do I go about traffic? do I just try to get ads on porn sites and rely on SEO?
How much do those sort of ads cost? can I put these ads on certain category of videos or etc? ( or does that depend on whoever hosts the ads?)
desu it's aimed at cougars.

where do i start lad?
I'm all for risk taking but trying to start a dating site/app from nothing is quite near impossible nowadays due to saturation
The main issue is getting people to actually use the damn thing. You have to get people to get people because no one wants to use a dating site that has only a handful of people unless it's an "exclusive elite" type deal. A few download it and they see it's a desert so they never open it again. I suppose there's room for a transsexual dating app or some panlove bs but do you really wanna do that?
If there's anything else you could do, I would suggest doing so.

ye that's a huge concern
and it's not like i can fill it up with bots ( I have seen others try and they turned me off quicker than I clicked "close window" )
but I am thinking: a quick work around:
if I do not spam them email then they won't delete themselves from the message list, so what I could do is just have a list for 3/6/12 month digest of how many new users and etc.
might be enough for them to "give it another go" if they haven't signed in for a while.
I want to make it because I have insight on where the market is failing.
>How do I go about traffic? do I just try to get ads on porn sites and rely on SEO?
There are a lot of ad exchanges for porn sites and from what I understand the traffic is usually cheap(er than non-porn sites). This is one good way to go. Plenty of Fish ran retarded, ugly banner ads for years (although the site's big feature was that it was free when most weren't).
SEO is a long-term endeavor and no guarantee. Plus and more importantly, it's a dating site; unless you're planning on writing articles and making infographics, stuff that's actually content, there's not much that Google's gonna be interested in. Nor will there be many people interested in clicking on random people's dating profiles that show up in Google SERPs if they actually do show up.

Depends on the website, yes. Some almost certainly offer that because more targeted ads make them more money.
As for cost, here's a quick example: http://www.xxxwebtraffic.com/advertisers.php#price
I wish I could recommend you some stats or something as to what's common/decent pricing but I never really did adult traffic.
