Can someone explain buy-stop and sell-stop orders?

Say I have 100 stock at $13.5.

I put a sell-stop at 14.00. I would expect the order not to execute until the stock reaches 14.00, at which point I'll get a price around there.

Conversely if I put a buy-stop at 13.00, I would expect the order to not execute until the stock reaches that price from the 13.50 I was originally at.

Now I'm using investopia, and I did the above to find my 13.72 purchase sold at 13.74 when I put 14.10.

Sell Jnug at 9-10, NUGT, I would play until 11 or 12. It will be a week, 2 week hold at max. If you want to wait until jnug is at 20 it will be a month or more,but it will be on the uptrend for a while.
