I have a the BoA cash rewards card and use it for everything, never use my debit card or cash. So its essentially free money. I pay it off every few days and I have a 790 credit score. So yes that it as very good strategy.

I've been paying it off each month for nearly a year now but my score is still 739 and I can't get a limit increase

What I've been doing, is paying off the full balance a few days before the monthly bill is generated, so it always shows up as 0 utilization.

I really don't understand the point of having credit and not having a near 100% utilization if you have expenses. Do people not understand opportunity cost and the time value of money?

However. Before i learned this i was told to get a few. Keeo utilization under 30%. Make minimum first oayment when bill comes. Next bill coms pay it off and trade out cards. Do with 1 or 2 cards evefy few months. Think i have like 6 now because i quit using the shitty ones but dont cancel or it fucks credit.

I quickly came from 450 credit to almost 780.

So take your pick.

I have a Citi Cash back card that pays a total 1.99% cash back on all purchases. I use this for everything and pay off the bill throughout my cycle, but it is always paid in full by the due date to avoid interest.

There is no reason to use cash or a debit card when you can spend your money more efficiently on a credit card. I was considering a points card, but the benefits are rarely as good as this (1.99% back).

As far as your credit card, yes this is an effective way to improve and maintain your credit. Pay it off in full and keep using it. Don't cancel old cards, because that will impact your score. And most of all don't spend what you can't afford! I use my card but treat it like cash. When I have a $200 balance, I treat it as if my checking account was $200 less (because really, it is).
