I don't see how this is relevant in you getting back your tax refund.
As long as all the information you put down is legit and accurate, you shouldn't have any problems getting back your refund check.

I changed jobs mid-year last year and maxed out my Social Security contributions at both. The second company couldn't assume I had already contributed to SS so I didn't have a choice

Are you not using tax prep software? You could put the info into TurboTax, get the amount, then just use that amount in your manual paperwork
