It's interesting to see it stay above 1000 for so long, but didn't something similar happen in 2013? How do we know this isn't some kind of bubble? Anyone more knowledgeable on the grand scheme of things want to chime in here?

If I've never had bitcoin before, is now a good time to buy some?

buy regardless of price right now, just look at the chart, the price went almost 10 fold in like two months in 2013, that's a bubble, 18 months of steady growth is not

Nice, thanks. I know no one can really answer this, but do you think someone could actually get rich off of this if they buy a bunch and wait? Like what's the chance this is going to be around in 2030?

Been testing an intraday strategy with 1 BTC on 10x lev and 4 or 8 dollar targets on my positions (if bullish trend will use 8 on longs 4 on shorts ect), no positions are held longer than 1 day (generally will delver to 3 or 5x if I have to absolutely hold, its happened once or twice). Starting fund exposure is around 12% which right now is about 2500 usd short/long (yes trading on mex) one of those trades per day brings me about 1-2% so if it happens quickly (quickest fill has been about 1 or 2 minutes during high volatility) I'll do a few per day, if I get into a bad entry position I'll average out increasing exposure or unwind it. Been pretty successful so far, I've been trading like this since jan 12th and I am sitting at just over 40% BTC gains now, I know its small but I'm thinking if I can carry this on I am on to something good. I've been trading/holding for a few years now but never at this sort of frequency. Do you think I am going to get rekt?

i would expect at least one large pullback before the etf results (im leaning towards it being rejected, but with guidance, and maybe one of the other etfs accepted), so at least wait for that if youre going to dump all your pay into something that is hovering around the ATH.
>>
>>1809981
>dump all your pay
I don't make enough, or have enough stowed away, to be that reckless with my money.

I just make small increment buys like $50-ish every paycheck or so.

I just have a personal goal of eventually reaching just 1 BTC, just to say I could.

Personally, I'm more interested in BTC as financial tech and a means of trade rather than a store of value. Not to say I'm against using it as a pseudo-stock, since I actually am, but hey.

im betting not all of the submitted etfs will be approved, there are real questions about issues like splinter groups from china trying to co-opt bitcoin for their own benefit and there needs to be a solid plan on how to defend against those types of attacks if you want to use it as a long term fund

W-what's happening on March 11?
>>
>>1810244
http://www.etf.com/sections/features-and-news/decision-bitcoin-etf-coming-march-11
>>
>>1810249
So how does the market respond to rejection vs. acceptance?
>>
>>1810254

Markets price in expected news before it's released. The rise you see now is due to general sentiment that it will be accepted. If it's rejected it will be sold off hard amid a minor panic dump.
>>
>>1810258
So working off the assumption of a rejection. Probably the best time to buy will be maybe the 13th-ish during the dump/crash?
>>
>>1810263

From what information is available now, yes.
>>
>>1810258
It has absolutely nothing at all to do with the ETF, it's all to do with China trading groups joining together and Japans gains.
>>
>>1810277
i think most of the japanese gains is down to bit flyer and like the chinese exchanges were they have 0 fee so there are going to be a lot of market makers and wannabe hfts inflating the numbers

You guys should all get on your knees and thank me personally for getting out of bitcoin two weeks ago.

If I had been holding bitcoin right now, the price would have crashed already just to spite me.
>>
>>1810309
you were once a coiner, and decided to become a nocoiner

how does one come to the conclusion to do something so stupid?
>>
>>1810312
>>1810312
It kept crashing HARD below my buy point.

I'd be up for weeks, and then all my gains would vanish in a single 15-minute candle.

This happened three times, and that was enough to buck me off the horse.

Now I'm waiting for the dip, but I know it won't come because I'm waiting for the dip.
>>
>>1810314
at least you are realistic in the last part, i kinda get your reasoning but still, betting on short term gains is almost never going to work out
>>
>>1810318
I was VERY determined to simply hold and disregard the dips.

I put a fair bit of money in it, but nothing I couldn't do without for 10 years even.

But those fucking crashes man.

Mind you, I'm still very confident in bitcoin, and even if I bought now and it crashed right away, I'm sure it would go right back up and I'd laugh about it in a week or two (let alone a year or 10).
I'm just waiting for a crash to buy in to keep from having a heart attack.
>>
Watching bitcoin take of right now is eating me up though.

It's like they kicked me off the bus three times, and finally drove off when I stopped trying to get back in.

It's my 7th birthday family trip to six flags all over again.
>>
>>1810322
I bought a bunch at around $1 a coin years ago; I had planned on using it as the basis for the currency of an online game I was building.

That one spur of the moment decision has made a massive difference in my life.
>>
>>1810329
I can imagine.

It wouldn't make much difference in my life, I'm doing very well as it is, and me and my wife are about to buy a new house and start a family.

I was going to use the gains in a few years to help out my brother who lives in a shit house he was going to renovate but doesn't have the time or money to.
Dude works his ass off but has nothing to show for it.

Honestly I wouldn't even have been looking into investing at all if my grandmother hadn't died in October. She raised me and my brother, and it was only after she died that I started realizing how worried she'd been about my brother the past 10-15 years.
>>
>bought at 750$

I have already done 2.7% BTC gains today, a 3500 entry at 1099 sold at 1104, 1105, 1106 respectively, I always feel terrible taking profit from a long during a trend like this but a 5 minute trade for a few percent whilst my BTC is growing anyway is all that is needed for my fund to reach/beat its target. When my attitudes change I will seek a btc to fiat profit taking approach instead and probably sell 50% of the profits once per week.

>>1809878
I mostly study combined depth charts + overall market sentiment to get a feel for the direction of the market. Then for TA I just stick to resistance channels to recognize trend changes combined with the use of bollinger bands + stochastic indicators the latter of which I think is a forex strategy. Really not complex stuff at all.

>>1809889
Trading on bitmex which is hands down the best BTC exchange I've ever used. I have had to average out some bad positions once or twice but its been quite a while since I've taken a bad entry point and with a large portion of funds remaining you can always average it or delever the position, even if you are over exposed and cannot delever you can slowly average out the position buy offloading some of the position to re-acquire it later, I've had to do this in the past. I'm sure you have experienced this yourself. Having small starting exposure is really what has given me the edge I feel like. Before I was trading like this I was using 50x leverage which I now see as insane I actually did pretty well for a while but then got massively rekt, margin called and wiped out. I really re-evaluated my life after that.
>>
>>1810322
thats what happens when you are a pussy

If the ETF passes, bitcoin is going to be hot shit for a long time. I honestly can't see any other crypto catching up afterwards. Just because new crypto has attractive features doesn't mean it will win out.

Case in point: TCP/IP
>>
Lot's of shaky dumbos that sold ITT.

>If the ETF passes, bitcoin is going to be hot shit for a long time.
gold and silver is worth almost nothing compared to their natural prices because they are shorted the shit out on the money market. bitcoin will suffer the same fate. scarcity hardly matters when only like 1% of a commodity ever sees the exchanges as they set the price.
>>
>>1811119
when it passes under 0.01/0.009 i might consider buying some more, other than that most altcoins are too inflated and have a long way to continue down.

>wrong. can't you read charts or what's wrong with you?
wrong how?
people keep saying if bitcoin goes down altcoins go up. but every time that happens you see big percentages in the red - if people lose faith they'll run to fiat, not altcoins
>>
>>1811277
>and it's 100% going to be rejected
Chances are looking better each day.

For instance: Trump assigned prominent bitcoin fan Mulvaney as his budget director, and just yesterday the SEC put out a move that is broadly seen to benefit crypto: https://www.sec.gov/news/pressrelease/2017-50.html

Also, a former Winkelvoss/Gemini attorney said the biggest hurdle for ETF approval was the """fact""" that 95% of bitcoin volume was in China, and only a few days later the PBoC enforced trade fees and the Chinese volume went fro 95% to about 30%.

And even if this particular ETF is rejected, another is almost certain to be approved in the future.
>>
>>1811289
>but every time that happens you see big percentages in the red
Are you clinically retarded or something? Look at the charts yourself. While the $ value of ALTs stay the same or marginally changes, it takes more BTC to buy the same amount of alt. It's like 4th grade mathematics.
>>
>>1811299
I can already see you're a cryptonoob. I would put my hand into the fire it's going to be rejected because the price of BTC fluctuates too much. Even whales know it's going to be rejected and thats the actual reason for the pump.. hence sell the news. Jesus Christ you all think there's a higher cause behind Bitcoin or other alts but in reality it's about shorting and longing when the time is right. Let me save you the trouble.. at no point, the "public" or the "governments" or whatever you poorfags got in your imagination, is going to realize that BTC is the "true" thing and it's going to pump 500% all of the sudden. ETF is going to be rejected, anyone who actually believes otherwise is a future bagholder. Sell the news, don't be a fucking moron and be "loyal" to one CC.

Screencapped for future schadenfreude.

Approval would mean exposure, and that's about all the ETF is good for, really.

Bitcoin doesn't need an ETF, normies need an ETF to wrap their heads around bitcoin. At least they think they do.

>at no point, the "public" or the "governments" or whatever you poorfags got in your imagination, is going to realize that BTC is the "true" thing
I'm part of the public, and I sure as shit realize it could very well be the "true" thing.

People were not saying this when it was at 10 cents. You sound like those Dogecoin bagholders, who thought it's going to replace Bitcoin and the only argument they had was "they said the same thing about Bitcoin"... that's when you know someone is going out of arguments.

You're talking nonsese. Back then Bitcoin was a very very small community and NOBODY expected it to rise. Bitcoin has long been established and there isn't going to be another 500% boom. >Bitcoin has long been established and there isn't going to be another 500% boom.
Bitcoin has certainly not long been established.
I'm willing to bet only a tiny percentage of 4chan users ever owned any bitcoin, let alone normies.
This is very much the infancy phase, hence the volatility.
There is gigantic growth potential, even long before normies start getting interested.
A tiny fraction of goldbugs turning to bitcoin for instance would make the price skyrocket.

>>
>>1811601
I'm sorry for sounding new, I've just started researching stocks about a month ago and haven't actually bought anything yet. What exactly is ETF?
>>
>>1811605
ETF stands for exchange traded fund

its an instrument in the stock market for buying multiple companies at once. instead of buying one stock of each company in the s&p500 you can just buy shares of SPY which is an ETF for that

the march ETF hes referencing is the winklevoss brothers company that is trying to bring a bitcoin ETF to the stock market under the ticker COIN. march 11th the SEC rules on a decision whether to allow it or not, its the first of its kind.

I think it will go below that if ETF is rejected, but even then, probably back to the 600s. I think we'll see a correction before the ETF, but even then, I don't think it will dip much below 1000. I'm bummed because I wanted to buy more BTC back when it was in the 700.

It will dip at some point in the future, but probably not down to todays price levels.

Don't worry the next pop is just around the corner. The buttcoins value is only speculative. Go into any corner store and try to pay with bitcoin. You can't.

This is a board about making money, not buying shit at corner stores. Stop coping.
