Purchased my home late 2015
>2016 county raised property taxes
>2016 county reassessed my property as the 7 year cycle happened to hit
End result, my property taxes increased 57℅ and now my escrow is under and my mortgage jumped a few hundred per month
what the actual fuck
>muh american dream
Laugh at me /biz/, I fell for their memes

Thank god I didn't need a mortgage, but my prop tax is a bitch this time of year.
57% increase sounds like you're getting ass raped. This should have taken a referendum.

If your property value really went up by that much you should refinance your house and take money out or pay down for a better rate. Or just sell.

This is good advice, OP. How much did your property value go up to correlate to a 57% increase in your bill? Either 1, your value is going up pretty quickly. Or 2, they are fucking you. Dont be a puss OP - ask to see their math
>ITT plebs who don't know you can legally appeal property tax assessments

How much did your assessed value go up? Look up the assessed values of your neighbors' houses and see if they had similar increases. If yours seems to have gone up disproportionately, you could contest it.

Only if you feel the taxes don't currently reflect the value of your house. If they just choose to raise the actual tax rate the assessor will just laugh at you.

1. Assessor don't raise tax rates. That's set by your legislature.
2. Your believe about the value of your home is irrelevant. If you can show that your assessment is out of line with comparables, you can get a reduction -- regardless of the actual or appraised value of your home.
