What's stopping me from actually doing this and getting easy financial gains?
buy dips of big corps with steady growth and hold.
I know it can't be this easy, just not why, can't be only taxes can it?

Well we are in a bull market now, you could lose all gains in a crash or stop making more gains if the market stays falt for a long time.
Or you start picking wrong companies who had steady growth in the past but cant continue with it after you bought in.
Once you see a lot of red numbers you will start doubting yourself, get worried and maybe react irrationally.
Those are the problems you might encounter, its obviously possible to beat the market and make great gains but you cant expect your 1 month performance to continue like that.
