Hey anon. I've actually made over 20K playing poker and fairly consistently at that.

The best advice I can offer you is to play locally in person. Online poker has too many good players and bots to consistently make money and the commisions are too high.

I play almost exclusively in private matches with members of country clubs, bars, etc.. just always get permission from the owners.

Cleaning the coffers from locals is the best way for long term success. I do not ever gamble with more than 5% of my liquid net worth. So if I'm at $20K in stocks & cash, I'll play for 1K buy in max (usually play ~2-3% of my net worth just incase theres some good players). Keeping down your risk is essential to long term success. I also play a 2nd/3rd table if I think the people are unskilled.

The most I've won in a night was a 1K buy in for 4 people. Brought home 3K profit clean (no need to report the income either).

Either play with locals or don't play at all, the odds are against you. At the end of the day poker is about managing risk and having favorable hands on people (much easier to do with randoms/friends than online).

I've only played for 2 years now, but with 20K in profit and playing only every other weekend or so with small stakes, I'd call myself pretty successful.

didnt you read OP. I play mostly live. i'm a decent player and play 2/5 fairly often. i'm confident in my skills in poker, its just that I'm a degenerate who can't ever leave a table. Often find myself stuck in 12 - 16 hour sessions where I'm chasing my losses after being up for a long time. i dont really have a problem with bots in poker, they can be beat fairly easy in cash games

I really think an online gambling game helped me as a kid.
You could win virtual stuff and trade with other people, you had credits which cost real money.
Bit like habbo hotel + gambling.
After being addicted for a year I had spend about 50 € of my parents money. A lot of money for when I was a kid.
When I stopped it all seemed so stupid.
Since then gambling and paying for stupid stuff have been really easy to avoid.

Depends where you live. In most countries you can play on Pokerstars, in the US online poker is unregulated unless you're in NJ, Delaware or Nevada. In most unregulated states you have the choice of playing on Ignition (recommended because of how fishy it is) or America's Card Room (more regs there than on Ignition but still bretty gud).
