You ask a good question. For most of the chart, hope goes down as despair increases, which is what is to be expected. But from the zero point where Despair and hope equal zero, there's a massive increase of Hope given a fragment of despair.
Perhaps we can attribute this to the optimistic spirit; where given some trouble, we hope for a change, but as we get further and further into despair, hope seems left behind.
