I just want to go get rid of mine because it's all a bunch of toxic relationships and petty drama and I want to cut all these people out for good.

But I'm worried that not having ANY presence means people will suspect me of some... thing, I don't know, I heard somewhere it's a red flag to not have a normie social media account. And not like just for jobs involving it, I mean hiring in general.

Does it actually matter or not?

Can't say from experience, but I have seen videos from websites (the ones where you can find jobs) that will interview employers, and some of the most common questions are what type of research do they do in order to hire someone, and what is the most common cause of someone not getting hired. I recall that many of them said that a lot of people did not get hired, mostly because they would post innapropriate things on social media OR they couldn't do any extensive research on an employee because they lacked any connection to social media.

Depends on your place of residence, your target industry and the company.

If you live in NY and want to hire at a hip marketing firm - social media will come up. If you live in Europe and want to work in management at a retail chain - it probably won't matter. If you live in rural Brazil and want to become a miner - nobody's gonna care about your social media.

My advice: Fucking do it. Fuck social media. If you're worried, set up a linkedin or xing page. Start a personal website and/or blog. Basically seed a few things so a google search about you doesn't come up empty. Beyond that be open about getting out of private social media because it negatively impaced your productivity.

A reasonable way to look at is to think how liberal or conservative the industry is.

If you're going to be working for a firm in Silicon Valley you know for a fact all those Millennial Cucks will look at your social media presence.

If you're going to work at a let's say a government job, it's fair to say all those old farts don't even know how tI set up a simple spreadsheet

This is only going to be true for journalism, media positions etc. Big problem with journalists is they are literally autistic and don't understand that there are other people out there with different needs. Journalists only apply to journalism jobs and need a fb and assume everyone else is a journalist so that everyone else will need a fb. This is how the "if you don't have social media you're a terrorist" meme started.

This is what happens when your "reporting" job is half using weasel words and never having to go back to correct anything blatantly wrong and just making up some psuedo excuse about muh sources. There is no journalism anymore, it's just clickbait and whoever can be the biggest edgelord.

Social media not that I have noticed.
What they find on a quick Google search of your name? Most definitely.

This happened to one of my friends from college.

>Senior year.
>Make friends with guy that seemed really mellow and got his shit together.
>Seems like a cool dude, always chill, we never had any issues.
>After graduation, he struggled getting a job and asked me for a recommendation to my place.
>"Yeah sure buddy, no problem"
>Manager pulls me aside, starts questioning my character.
>"Wut.jpg"
>Manager pulled up a google search on my friend.
>Turns out my friend was a bully in high school and even in his first 1-2 years of college.
>One of the kids he picked on made a website of "friendsname dot com" where he posted a lot of the shit he did as a bully.
>>
Having good connections at LinkedIN works fine.
>>
I know /r9k/ bitches about it a lot but I've never had an interviewer ask me about the post ironic weirdness I post on facebook and I've never heard of it being an issue with anyone else.

I don't think they actually check. You can always just set your shit to private anyway. That it's private will tell them more about you than any of the content of your feed, and most of what it tells them is good. (i.e. you're not an idiot and can protect your data and maintain privacy online)

this

if you want a recruiter to stumble upon your resume for a random position, you need to have it on glassdoor and monster.

glassdoor/monster is for finding random people for a position, linkedin is for checking that a specific person isnt a creep
>>
I do have a linkedin, actually, which I use professionally for networking.

Anyway, I decided to do it. Fuck Facebook.
