How does the US Economy work if we just import all of our products, and export hardly anything in return? Won't our trade deficit just result in money printing, and thus devaluation of the Dollar?

We export lots of stuff faggot

The U.S. dollar is backed by the U.S. Military

We export a lot. Cars, heavy machinery, chemicals, minerals, the list goes on and on. We don't export cheap shit like t shirts and tooth brushes, but we do export a lot of high value equipment that requires heavy capital investment and good infrastructure.

This is part of it. Since commodities are all priced in USD (because the USA is the best country) and oil is the most important commodity and we make a lot of it, our currency is strong, we have a lot of leverage to import shit at good prices.

That other guy is right we export capital goods.

Also, we export a lot of grain and food commodities, priced in dollars. Why Mexico and other countries with shitty currencies have food riots all the time when the dollar is strong.

There's plenty of exports actually. That's the main focus of Trump, fixing the deficit. Deficit is currently ~65 Bil/mo. That's A LOT, that's 30% of the US gvt's income, fixing it is worthwhile.

Is it bad, yes. Is it ths-nation-is-going-to-fall-bad, no. It's not optimal. But it must be fixed.

The trade deficit and federal spending deficit are not the same thing.

Trump will just make both deficits worst. The USD will be strong with protectionist trade policy and tax revenue will go down with his tax cuts and whatever trillion dollar infrastructure bill he wants to fund.

Gonna be kinda weird, since protectionist policies and deficit federal spending haven't been tried before. Maybe tarriffs will make up the lost tax revenue and he'll make America Great again, idk.

We export bombs on your country if it has oil Pajeet
And the arts

Everyone focuses on the trade deficit, but no one ever seems to pay attention to the US financial account.

Basically, we buy shit from overseas, so that other country now has dollars. Since they don't want to buy our shit in return, they invest in the US instead. That's why you see headlines about Chinese companies buying a shitload of US assets.

70% of the US GDP is internal consumption.
16% from imports, and 14% from exports.
