i don't know how it's supposed to be done but here's how i do it. first i plop the ticker into finviz and take a look at their chart. it gives me a quick idea of where the stock is going. then i glance down the recent news section and the stocktwits chatter (stocktwats is nice for seeing how interested retail traders are and what the sentiment is). if i'm still interested, i chart it on tradingview.com to look at some of the techinical indicators i like... things like the ichimoku cloud, parabolic sar, macd, and stochastic oscillators. if there is specific news i'll go looking for it - sec filings, pr, earnings, study results, etc.
