Porn has been crashing hard for the last ten years in terms of profit. Tube-sites are killing producers. You pay for studio, production, make-up, actors - upload the clip to your pay-site and two days later it's plastered all over the web for free. Shit sucks. There's definitely money in tube sites, because you claim it's all user uplaods while secretly feeding all the new scenes in yourself for free. That's why Brazzers remains a high-profile porn company - they profit off of other people's hard work.

As a small producer you basically have to diversify into niches. Make custom scenes, fetish porn, wholesome ethical porn, whatever. I mean - film is long dead. Physical media (VHS/DVD/BD) is in its death-throes. But paysites still somewhat work if you have good content, don't bullshit your customers and are on top of your DMCA-game. I don't think you'll ever convince a die-hard pirate. But there's still plenty of dudes who don't even know what a torrent is, who don't want to surf around on shady malware ridden sites or who just plainly don't think it's worth their time. They'd rather pay a few bucks a month for no bullshit high-quality downloads or streams from a trusted source. And I don't think that'll ever go away. The same with music or film - piracy sucks, but the industry still sticks around and plenty of people are willing to pay for good service. Anti-piracy measures by no means preserve exclusivity, you've just got to keep your content out of reach of the average internet user (who's pretty technically illiterate).

Tube sites and paysites are owned by the same companies.
Just an example:

Basically, they bought all those tube sites so instead of having some third party profit off their bootlegged videos that are uploaded there, now it's still them profiting of the same video whether it's on its official website or it's on a tubesite.
They just remove most of the full versions of the content produced by their other paysites, and put an ad for the official one on the little clips.
That's why it's a million times easier to find a little piece of a video, rather than the whole full quality version.

Then those paysites make money by selling you a very cheap tryal version that hooks you up because the quality and convenience is on a whole other level, and once you're inside they upsell you other subscriptions to other websites of their same network.

Every time you log into Brazzers, RK, and the other ones in that network, you get redirected to a page called pornportal with all their other websites (and it tells you which ones are accessible from your account).

After I get into the website itself there are animated banners of scenes from other websites that they own, so you're baited into subscribing there as well, just to get that hot scene you saw before.

Couple these sales/marketing tricks with the fact that a lot of people prefer spending a relatively small amount of money for the convenience, quality, and ease of use, and you'll see why a lot of people still spend money on these websites.
