I'm a doctor and medical educator from the UK. I've often found concepts to be badly explained and turned to YouTube tutorials to get to grips with the big picture of a subject before going to primary literature to get the details. I'm aware, therefore, there's competition from some big providers but I think I have a marketable skill in explaining difficult medical concepts - my question is, is this a viable money-making strategy (on top of my clinical work) or am I wasting my time?

>>
>>1691581
Wow, you're getting ripped the fuck off.

you might have heard about junior doctors striking in the UK recently over being shanked by our contracts but our union, the BMA, turned out to be massive cucks

consultants (equivalent is attending) earn £70,000 - £100,000 with the NHS. we pay for registration fees but no malpractice. yet especially with the pound post-brexit those figures don't look great against US salaries. i was recently working in NZ with american ED attendings and they were laughing at us

for comparison this salary is for 7 years post-18 working nights, weekends, 56 hours per week

A crash course medical series on Youtube? That would appear sound, and I'm sure some nurses and PA's would also benefit from it, as well as those curious about medicine in general... But are there that many med students who would use Youtube as their first reference for complex medical knowledge? At least in the US, schooling is hella costly because you are getting access to the educators and references that you need to understand everything.

>But are there that many med students who would use Youtube as their first reference for complex medical knowledge?

yes, actually. medical students use youtube as one of their main learning resources. even surgeons refer to it and publish their own videos on there, there are full operations and demonstrations of complex surgical techniques documented on there if you look hard enough.
>>
>>1691605
I'd argue yes - to the point where my real challenge may be beating established players such as Khan academy medicine https://www.youtube.com/user/khanacademymedicine - some of their top viewed videos have a billion views
>>
>>1691613
>>1691611
I stand corrected, that is quite an audience!
>>
>>1691619
Something we're not taught (not sure about the US) is how to monetise medicine or begin a start-up and that's one of the reasons I've started browsing /biz/, to work out how I can self-teach this. As for making videos, I have the content and some skills in editing. I just need business and marketing knowledge.

The best thing you can do for your financial situation is move.

That salary is a joke outside of socialist countries.

Do you believe in open borders?

Do you agree with the current levels of immigration into the UK?
>>
>>1692119
it will all end in tears..

>>1691586

>>1691643
also not many people here study medicine here for money, they know or should know this before they start.. even the interviewing process and application testing is to weed these people out but i suppose OP has the option to emigrate once he's fully qualified i wouldn't blame him if he did

From a medical point of view illegal users of the NHS cost a tiny, tiny part of the £110bn budget (160m) so that doesn't bother me, the social and economic cost of checking for status would be greater. But I do agree with a points-based system for all economic migrants which would allow us to take a very limited number of refugees
Immigrants are being used as a scapegoat to hide how badly the Tory government are fucking over the NHS
>>
>>1692194
Just wanted to check if you are a cuck.

The government shouldnt pay you more since you are happy to have them import replacements. Supply and demand.

Also, how can they know the cost if they are not checking already?
