Is there a market for freelance german/english translators?
I am bilingual after all these years of shutting myself out of real life and being online all the time.
So I got no certifications or "experience", but managed to translate a few texts rather quickly.

There's a market for everything.

Would you say there is a good chance to make it your career?
I only met germans, who were fluent in english online.

what the fuck
most germans speak english except maybe old people in the east

No, not a good career since plenty of Germans already speak fluent English.

on the other hand there is many international business going on. They arent es fluent as you would think.
Another germanbro who is fluent in english and spanish reporting in.
Any chance for me? not interested in doing it forever or aiming for the salary ceiling (since, like op i have no credentials or referable experience).
but can one earn a humble freelancers wage that amounts to say 15/20€ an hour doing this? what are the entry level boards for people to offer/hire services?
would it make sense to start this as a very specifically targeted thing, say for instance, game localisation? or do those companies rather hire pros with credentials and degrees?

I started working as an English to German freelance translator about 3 years ago. I now make approximately €2k/month with it and am about to climb the ladder much higher by getting an accreditation.
The market is pretty good, but not every bilingual person can be a good translator. The main question isn't how good your English is, but how well you can write in German.

that english to german exam is tough. All these rules.
And I am native.
Haha. Keine Chance. Es können sehr viele Deutsche fließend Englisch sprechen. In so einem gesättigten Markt kannst du vergessen gutes Geld zu machen.
Keep dreaming, translating one of the worlds most popular language in a country in which it is widely spoken is not worth ones time.
