Does it make sense for me to buy a car?
>40 hours weekly, job is secured
>Make $12 / hour
I would get a LOC and buy a car with 4-5k, insurance would be 300 I think
I abhor the Public transit in my city.
Would /biz/ do it?

I'd also like to add I live in toronto and our drivers are...less than friendly to bikers sharing their streets.
car is a necessity - go buy it.
it might be a money sink, but so is half the things you're looking at. if you need it - go get it. just don't be a retard and get something that's gonna break down on your ass soon. a 2007/08 honda/toyota would be your good bet

Yes, get a car. It's not as expensive as people say it is.

Not if you get a reliable car.
I have a Honda that will make 200k or more miles. Very low maintenance. Much better than having to take a bus.

TTC isn't that bad compared to other cities/towns
No need to ever finance a car. Buy a cheap $1-2.5K car in cash and your insurance will be like $100 a month.
But first you should talk to somebody who owns a car like your parents and ask about the typical costs. Then weigh that against the cost of public transportation.
I personally bought a dual sport motorcycle. I spend maybe $20 a week in gas in it that's after cruising around every day after work. It's a lot cheaper than a car or truck. When I had a car, I was spending upwards to $300 a month in the thing, but it was a piece of shit.
Get a pick-up.
>Easy on gas
>Actually useful for when you gotta move.

If you only make 12/hour and don't actually need a car than it would be stupid to buy one. TTC is a relatively good transit system, there are many places in this country, even in urban areas, where a car is 100% necessary if you have a job. You're lucky to have the TTC and should take advantage of it by not wasting money on a car.
