Excuse me for being so rude, but I have nowhere to ask.

I've been doing my research for the last 2 weeks trying to come up with what direction I should go in if I want to live my dream of working from home and "making money from money" and in a sense being my own boss.

I'm still very new to all this. Out of everything I've looked into stocks and Forex seem to be what I'm looking for, but stock traders say Forex is a waste of time, and Forex say the same about stock traders. Then there's business owners and other /biz/ related positions that say any kind of day trading is complete bullshit and no one can make a living from it.

Is day trading for a living just an impossible dream? Is there even a way to make a living (note, I'm not saying get rich, just make enough to live) by trading? Is Forex or stocks the way to go?

If you think about it, or even ask around, how often do you see or meet someone who can confidently say "I make a living as a day trader" yet alone someone who has made a decent amount of money with it. Of course there are the rare cases, but a 0.001% success rate is a fucking atrocious number.

When I say day trading I mean anything from 15 minute trades to several week long trades in both stocks and Forex.

If you have the money to be a day trader, then yes, you can make a living off of it. Though, obviously, you must be skilled enough to make good picks every week consistently. You must acknowledge this, the market is not always guaranteed and can chew you up, then spit you out in one day. I also wish for the privilege of being my own boss and being independent. My cousin has been day trading forex for 3 years now. He's 26 and kind of a neckbeard and he's room mate with his 30 year old brother who does fire alarm installation, it's actually a nice home
tho and he drives a nice car and has spent atleast $3k on his PC battlestation. Moral of the story is that yea it's possible, I asked him about it and he said he started off paper trading when he was doing his 4 years in the Navy and got decently successful at it, he said he just uses technical analysis (none of the Fibonacci stuff, just watching the candlesticks).
