This shit ain't hard. Read a book or two on personal finance and then stick with low cost index funds.
You only need the bankers for complicated situations like trusts, tax strategies, cash management for large sums of money, etc.

Compare that to Vanguard's fees and you'll realize how badly you're getting fucked
