it's colonialism all over again, you knows those Chinese they'll see what Westerners do and then do a cheaper, inferior copy. But it's cheaper, so like you don't mind if it falls apart in 12 months, because you know you're not really gonna use it again.

True, but the Chinese are much more open about it. In nearly every chapter of the book, the author is horrified to hear that the Chinese colonizer he's interviewing thinks Africans are lazy and stupid.

The Chinese are odd. Their racism doesn't even seem like racism. When a Chinese man says that an African is stupid and lazy, he often doesn't sound malicious in the least. More like he's just stating a fact.

It makes the Chinese's incredulity when dealing with negroes even funnier.
