I've decided not to celebrate Christmas this year, and to instead donate $750 between some charities. I found some well known charities I am considering:

However, are there others you recommend for the purpose of funding research? I'd especially like reliable ones funding AIDS, cancer, and stem cell research. I'd also appreciate comments on the above three charities, and any tips on using the donations as write offs (I'm a sole proprietor).

Don't donate to big ass charities, they're already fat from CSR checks, donate to small orphanages or other foundations around yer country if you're not considering EFF

Management within the companies will generously line their own pockets along with their employees, inefficiently waste it on overpriced equipment they don't need, or blow it on some other expense. Have fun paying the fuel for the Red Cross executive's private jet

They are scams.
Instead, find organizations that you support or that MEAN SOMETHING to you, and give them a gift.
For example, I donated to a blogger because I have been reading and enjoying his work for a long time. Those kind of donations make a real difference.
