Should I major in Business Administration, Accounting, Computer and Information Systems or become an Electrician?
>>
bus admin means nothing

accounting means nothing without CPA (staff accountant bitch)

cis.... just learn windows server, and cisco...

electrician is shit pay, unless your family can get you into union.

3 decent choices, CPA is best but hardest...

Business administration with a focus/concentration on accounting. Then go for cpa if you want, it's not as hard as people make it seem, it's not rocket science.
>>
>>1634527
What about a concentration in Finance?
>>
Why not CS? CIS and networking is the shit work compared to actual software and web dev. And IT is being quickly automated.
>>
I studied Computer Science in the early 1980's. I've done quite well.
>>
How old are you? Do you still live with your parents? If you've never worked a job full-time for a full year, don't go to college

>Business Administration
Fucking worthless. Do not get any degree with the word business attached to it.

>Accounting
The job's miserable. If you're afraid of STEM and care about money more than your sanity, go ahead

> Computer and Information Systems
I don't think we can give you a good answer. Go ask /sci/ or /g/

Don't listen to these idiots.
Accounting is selling your fucking soul away. If you can leverage IS it's a solid career choice for the future(certifications etc etc)
>>

IT is fucking stupid to go into. He should go CS.

I did Accounting over 5 years and got a job offer for 63k/yr in an expensive city. If i searched harder I could get probably 50-60k in a less expensive city next year.

if i could do it all again, i would go into tradework like electricians. i would consider becoming an underwater welder or something dope.

however, if you want to make real money, all my friends who have majored in systems engineering or statistical analysis are doing very well (like 75k undergrad, 90k masters).
That could always change though with what is becoming lucrative.

Accounting is not that miserable, it's only miserable if you don't want to actually work or learn in your first couple years at entry level.
Besides that, job availability is high and once you get a public accounting firm on your resume, it'll look good no matter what.

Computer and Information Systems sounds like you would get employment in an IT department.

>>1634835
Accounting is also not selling your soul away. If you have an industry you are interested in, but not sure how to get into, then do accounting.
Pursue employment at a firm which has the industry you would like to specialize in. Then you can network hard enough to break into one of those roles. Happens all the time, especially with the driven people at Big 4 firms.

I can't deny that people who aren't "picked" to become partners get burnt out, but hopefully you won't be so useless during your time there you failed to learn the language of your chosen industry or network into other potential employment.

Accounting is not selling your fucking soul away, but I would call it putting your soul to work. If you are just working for a paycheck, yeah you're selling your fucking soul away, but that can happen with any type of living you choose.

Accounting offers great opportunity to a HUGE diversity of industries, and you can pursue employment at any accounting firm which services that industry.

Computer and Information Systems

High paying, in-demand field.

Keep in mind the people saying against Information Systems don't really understand the career. I'm actually in this field and understand how in demand it will be in the future.

Any company needs someone that is specialized or can do the data analytics etc etc. It'll only get bigger.

Personally I've always felt with accounting you're basically another cog in the machine. A dime in a dozen. Capping yourself early on and being a wage slave for your boss. No accountant will deny that. You have a comfortable life sure but that's not what I've wanted. Maybe your judgement is different but it's just food for thought.

Currently I am doing aerospace software. My friend in a Big 4 acct firm is asking me to join him there as a product specialist (doing database software). Is it advisable to jump ship? Can a software person be a partner there?
