business plan is procrastination. It might be useful for bullshitting VC's and banks, but let's face it- if you're the sort of person that needs to make a plan and stick to it you're never going to survive in business.

The first thing is to understand your customer:
Who are they?
What are you providing them?
Why is it worth a premium? or: How are we different?
Where and How will you reach this customer?

And if you have a lot of data, you might work out "what is the total market (for this type of product or service) worth?"

Everything else you can extrapolate from those insights. Your metrics, your financial model, how much cash-flow you want, what kind of brand image you need, point of sale, how much advertising you need, timeframes, milestones, how long you should hold onto inventory: all answer themselves once you understand your customer.
