just use optionshouse, never had an issue and it has the lowest commissions. TDAmeritrade has better software but I'm not paying $12++ a trade. If you want you can papertrade on tdameritrade and put the trades in on optionshouse

i would use leverage in shorting if i could, but the margin requirement is 100% for interactive brokers, and probably the same elsewhere. you're right about buying. i'm trying to learn better strategies for buying, but that doesn't mean its smart to limit yourself to only play long positions

Sounds like a marketing trick to get extra capital to me. Because most brokerages run their own clearing to begin with, and I've never heard of a brokerage that uses multiple clearing firms. It's all the same regardless of accounts. So what company are they talking about?
