I lost my motivation to make money, days pass and at some point in it I am thinking
>I haven't done any work towards my goal today
I want to one day wake up, usually tomorrow, and work towards my goals the whole day, non stop work, but it never happens. And I imagine how great I would feel at the end of the day if I manage that.
>>
You need a 'big why', a reason to do it.

Just 'making money' isn't a sufficient 'why'
>>
What's wrong with working on your goals for an hour a day?
Or ten minutes a day?
Once it becomes a routine, it becomes a habit, and habits tend to grow.

Imagine your goal is, say, one million dollars.

Do you see that tower in your photo you posted?
The one on the right, far way, up on that hill, with the lights on it?
Do you see it?
Imagine that's your goal.

If you make it to that tower, and then to the top of the tower, there's one million dollars there for the taking.

You just have to ask a man at the top of that tower for it, and he will give it to you.

So, all you have to do is keep walking towards that tower.

No matter whether you take one step a day, or walk a mile a day, you are getting closer.

As long as you keep walking.
And ask for directions if you get lost.

I know how you feel
take breaks. lift those days or study for another CFA exam..
life is long
>>
>>1552270
This turn off your wifi and switch off your phone for an hour or two each day and get something done. If you need longer than that just space it out with breaks to keep you focused.
>>
>>1552270
Thanks anon.

>>1552233

Also, this -

>I haven't done any work towards my goal today

Well, there you go, you said it yourself.

The gap between where you are, and where you want to be, is called 'FRUSTRATION' - the cure for FRUSTRATION is ACTION.

>>1552240
This is a good point, too though.
A strong 'why' will get you far.

>>1552307
>>1552491
If you guys liked that, I strongly recommend Neil Gaiman's commencement speech -

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikAb-NYkseI

I basically adapted that Tower story from Neil's story. He visualized his goal as a mountain he was working towards.

Try involving friends in the whole procedure. It wakes your "instinctual team/compete spirit" up.

Also, >>1552240
It is good advice.

>>1552572
I don't know, I like to keep to myself when it comes to this, I feel like sharing it gives just a fake sense of accomplishment which makes it even harder to work on it. But it can work with other hungry people
>>1552270
This hits pretty hard, and you are absolutely right, I hope I can apply it. If I can't do it for at least 10 minutes, I might wake up at some point and realize it never happened, which scares me the most.
>>
Sounds like your problem may be that your current goal is not realistic given your current circumstances. The large gap between where you are and where you want to be is discouraging you rather than pushing you.

Try setting a more achievable intermediate goal.

For example if your current goal is to make 150k a year and you currently make 60k, set a goal to make 80k.

Good thread
>>
>>1552572
I get that, and it works for certain people, but I just ended up more frustrated and embarrassed at not making the progress I said I was going to make, or abandoning projects or changing direction too much. I didn’t appreciate back then how quickly you can learn new concepts nowadays. You can use accelerated learning methods to get further than most people. It's never been easier.

There is a case for keeping them secret, at least until you're actually doing the thing, or are somewhat successful with it.
Tim Ferriss and a few others recommend this, also AJ Jacobs has a nice take on it -
Just call everything an 'experiment' or a fun project, just downplay it, so that people don't worry too much that you're in too deep, or joined a cult or something, and also you come in under the radar, like you're just curious about something.

It's okay for smaller goals, for social reinforcement, like say, losing weight, getting abs, which just require discipline, not skill or talent or luck but success at say, business, requires a bit of each of those. Just not as much as people think.

Let people see some results fully formed,
or at least a proper prototype.
Like lots of people talk about how they are gonna make money online, but fewer are actually doing it. Others will either talk you out of it, or tell you a million reasons why you can't do it; because they're scared you'll fail, or because they're scared you'll succeed.
Only listen to people who are where you want to be, or who are doing what you want to do. NOBODY else unless it's financial or legal counsel, not what somebody 'reckons'.
NO speculators.

Everyone dreams of millions, but few will even double their income in their lifetime.
Let me ask you something -

Can you imagine doubling your income within the next year?
>>
>>1552233
>I lost my motivation to make money, days pass and at some point in it I am thinking

Sounds like you never had the motivation.

Answer to yourself WHY you want to make money.

Get a piece of paper and write out 100 reasons why you want to make money.

If you have those reasons that's all the motivation you need.
>>
>>1552233
You've got to condition yourself over time. If you want to do 100 push-ups in one go, how do you do it? Increase your routine by one push-up each day.

In other words, if you want a 12-hour work day, start with one hour, tomorrow do an hour and a half, etc.
>>
>>1552233
try renting a private study room if u get distracted or tired
>>
>>1552705
What if I just want money to retire and neet it up for the rest of my life? Money is just a means to an end.
>>
Goals are for losers, get a system.
>>
>>1554622
>What if I just want money to retire and neet it up for the rest of my life? Money is just a means to an end.

Answer the WHY.

You need the WHY, that's your fucking motivation. Get a WHY.

Write down 100 reasons you want a goal on a piece of paper. That's your motivation.

For example for lifting I made a list, something like this:

Reasons to be Fit
1. Be an inspiration to others
2. Look better to girls
3. Be healthier
4. Be stronger
5. Not be embarrassed to take shirt off
6. Less embarrassing to go to the doctor
7. Makes surgery easier to perform and recover from
8. Get taken more seriously by others
9. Know I could accomplish something after setting a goal
10. Inspire my future children
11. Be more capable to perform physical tasks
12. Look better in clothes
13. Stand out in a crowd
14. Never have the worst body of a group
15. Look better than my friends

Etc etc.

When you write it out that way you really have no excuses for not being motivated. These are positives you came up with on your own a quick glance once in a while gives you all the motivation

Don't want to highjack but in having trouble finding something I want to do with my life. How do you guys find your passion?
>>
>>1554970
We don't, and I'm at my Wit's end here.
Have been trying to figure out my why for a long time now, but I'm clueless. The advice is usually to do what you're good at, but what if you're not passionate about what you're good at?
We're in the same boat, and I hope we ever find the why that we're searching for.

The best answer to this I have heard, that was very specific, was from Ramit Sethi.
His stuff is great and he gives away like 95% of his content.

He said what do you find yourself doing on a weekend afternoon instead of getting serious and starting a business?

That’s it, or close to it.
You do something with your time, everybody does.

And don't tell me 'nothing' - If you watch TV, pitch a TV show or film a pilot. Anything you like already or close to it.

>but anon, I like drag racing, I can't afford a car like that

First of all, says who?
You're basing that on an assumption.
Can you raise capital? Find investors for that?
Start a racing team?
If not, you can go to a race and maybe interview drivers and pose with pitgirls, it can be done.
Do you need permission or note from your mom?
Whose permission do you need?
Seek it.

I got real honest with myself.
I spend half my weekend watching comedy and porn.
So, I started a a porn website, a YT comedy channel, almost no unique content, and also I will be shooting my own porn soon.

I am not showing my face at the moment, but thank god that is he trend anyway, since we've all had those awkward moments when it cuts to some guys sweaty face as you cum.
Porn is like 90% the woman on screen now.
Nobody gives a fuck about the dick ramming her.

I didn't dive straight in, I chased work as close to that as possible. One job was putting tags on porn videos. Beats working. Second sideline was porn review website. Didn't make much money with that though. Making money now, no great shakes but enough to soon leave my jobless and I will be expanding.

For a more spiritual or mature goal, more mid to long term, I love dogs and could play with them all day and never get bored. So future goal is a dog home. Probably abroad.

Another passion is weed, so plans to move into that. I want to be an active investor with a share in a dispensary or the crops themselves, and also weed accessories.

>Can you imagine doubling your income within the next year?
I hope this was not a copy-paste to promote some product.

Yeah, i understand what you are saying. But people get inspired. The reason people of the West are broken right now, is because we have been made by the system like that, so that we are more susceptible to control. But that also means that if you are a little bit manipulative and a little bit inspiring, you can get your way without people even knowing you are using them. I'm not saying its easy, but it's not hard either.
>>
>>1554622
I'd say this could be a good 'why', FI certainly was enough for me to get motivated.

But, you have to ask yourself if you are really that passionate about it, or if you'd just think it would be nice to have. The goal itself is extremely tough, believe you me. And unless you're insanely driven towards it, it's not a good goal.
>>
>>1555275
Yeesh. What if you just get hammered every weekend?
>>
>>1552233
You ever thought of just stopping being a pussy?
>>
>>1555720
No, it was a genuine question, but part of a thought experiment to help shift your mindset.

It goes like this -
Q#1 -
Can you imagine doubling your income in the next year?
Most people with a poverty mindset (95%+) will say 'NO'.

Q #2 - can you imagine earning 10x your income in the next year?
Most of the same people will scoff at that, for the same reasons.

Q #3 -
Compared to 10x'ing your income, how realistic does doubling your income seem now, in comparison to your feeling about question #2?

People talk about getting money 'beyond their wildest dreams' - well, you're already not giving yourself much of a chance, you're saying the big money is something you don't even dream about.
Don't dream of being a millionaire, dream of being a billionaire.

The big difference with most rich people is they didn't just have wild dreams, they believed them, and would actively daydream and then pursue their dreams.

Start a YT channel? 'Live at McCools Bar' or whatever. Start small, get permission, film 3 episodes at the bar you're at, you promote the bar a little, maybe a brewery or alcohol brand will sponsor it. Maybe do other local bars.
Maybe you'll get free drinks, snacks. Maybe you'll become local celebrities.
Maybe you franchise it, go national or international.

If you're gonna say it won't work, I would say you're basing that on an assumption, not an attempt.

Start home brewing? See if that can be turned into a commercial venture?

Club/bar promoter?

Like I said, it just needs to be close to the things you're passionate about. It doesn’t have to be some grand ideal.

Doug Stanhope literally said he became a comedian in particular because he's an alcoholic and borderline junkie. He reasoned he likes telling jokes and making people laugh, and he's usually in a bar anyway, so he might as well be on stage telling jokes to a bigger audience, while he drinks, instead of at the bar with a couple friends. His friends are there anyway.
