why is gold so much bigger than platinum? platinum is much more beautiful and rare.
>>
>platinum is more rare than gold
Seriously? So why the fuck gold is more expensive?
>>
>>1548740
platinum is more expensive.
>>
>>1548724
Why do you care about a fucking metal?
>>
>>1548751
Without metal technology wouldn't exist...
And they worth more than you think.
>>
>>1548751
there is a goldlust thread on right now, Soros and Buffett invest in gold, people buy gold more. platinum is more rare, beautiful and expensive but gold is much more normalfag
>>
>>1548758
normalfag approved
>>
gold is very distinct- it's yellow

any dumb fag can look at a bar of gold and realize "that's gold"

same with copper

platinum just looks like "generic metal #47" to most laypeople. So if they don't know the platinum is platinum at first glance, then they probably won't give a shit about it for trading.

>>1548790
this is the answer i was looking for. thanks.
>>
>>1548724
platinum jewelry is consistently more expensive than 18c gold. at 24c the price difference is not so great, although pure gold is not very practical for wearing anyway
>>
>>1548851
>at 24c the price difference is not so great, although pure gold is not very practical for wearing anyway
what?
>>
>>1548744
You wat bro?
>>

>>1548724
Gold is literally a meme.
It was the go-to metal for currency for millenia, and because of this it is still strongly associated with the abstract notion of value.
>>
>>1548724
Gold is globally used as a hedge against inflation. Platinum is far more rare than gold so this is a perfect example of perceived value being greater than true supply & demand
>>
>>1548859

pure gold is very soft (malleable)

if you wear it as a ring or braclet, it's likely to bend/get dents in it
>>
>>1548957
is that for pure platinum?
>>
>>1548974
>Platinum is far more rare than gold so this is a perfect example of perceived value being greater than true supply & demand
No, it's a great example of supply & demand alone dictating value.
Gold is more valuable BECAUSE the demand is much higher relative to the supply.

I'm pretty sure that to be marketed as platinum, the alloy needs to be at least 90% pure. 100% would be exceedingly rare, I think
>>
>>1549011
100% pure means there are no individual atoms of any other material in the 100% pure sample, statistically this is lim -> impossible.
>>
>>1548957
>>1549011
i just found out that pure gold is more expensive than pure platinum even though platinum is much more beautiful and rare.

is it the same for jewelry too? gold for jewelry is 22k at the highest. what's the standard for platinum's purity in jewelry?
>>
>>1548724
what do you mean, bigger, its used in hard drives lol and jewelerry ofcourse
>>
>>1548724
ow yeah, plus gold doesnt stain and its the heaviest metal on eath for faks sake mate
>>
>>1548724
Gold and copper are the only known metals to have a distinctive color. Platinum is barley different than silver or aluminum. Also platinum isn't as good a conductor.
>>
>>1548753
Im ok with technology not being created.
>>
Platinum is fucking awesome.

It has a plethora of industrial applications so it is correlated with the economy.

People buy gold as a hedge it's usually inversely correlated with the economy.

I would buy platinum over gold every time.
