Here's the thing they don't tell you about owning real estate in places like Cincinnati or Detroit. You can buy a house for the cost of a VCR, but they come with MASSIVE tax obligations. These tax obligations stem from the fact that the former owners usually had not been paying taxes on these properties in years. Often times the tax burden is higher than the value of the property in a livable condition. (We're talking higher than 80k on some of these shitboxes). The bank that forecloses on the property won't pay the tax, they'll simply act as an escrow representing the city and dump the tax on the new owner. It's precisely why these houses that cost 1000 bux won't sell.
