In other words; while I get to pay for the water bill, my taxes pay for the maintenance of our municipal water plant which allows the produced power sold to be credited to Avista.

Note: this is inherently a monopoly by this corporation, too, as there are other water/power providers but avista has a regulation-enforced monopoly over the a) energy b) water rights despite the infrastructure having been built, and still maintained to this day, by county officials.

Communism vs Capitalism wasn't even what the war of ideologies was about. It was about Us vs. Them as matter of political influence and getting governments in place sympathetic to your alliance.

The fact of the matter is you want government administering public goods as a results oriented, not-profit driven entity. Otherwise you end up with the weird shit like the US having jacked up prescription prices and fucked up health insurance while basic utilities like water, electricity, and telecommunications are run by government sanctioned monopolies providing as little as possible for as much as they can charge.

But for as fucked up as all that is, at least we still have the 1st amendment.
