I'm trying to incorporate a programming language into my current job. Which program would be most beneficial to someone in a non-programming role? I'm leaning towards java or c++.
VBA to raise your MS Office skillset. Seriously, for us non computer guys vba is the thing.

VBA obviously is limited to office. I'd like something a little more versatile. I don't want to pigeon hole myself.

Then sql.

Why would Java and C++ be useful to someone who isn't writing programs?
Learn Python.

Think again. The market is so flooded with programmers right now a new comer will not be able to get a decent job.

if windows platform then try power shell
if linux/unix then some shell scripting lingo
that will get you started and it will actually be useful a lot
C#, just write your shit and if you need another language you will find out and pick it up later.
