What to say when an interviewer / potential boss asks why I'm interested in the industry?

For me it's the Logistics / International Freight industry, but maybe there's some generic answer.

I actually have a reply (long winded) about why I'm interested, but I was speaking to a guy from one company on the phone and he kind of stopped me half way through and seemed disinterested.

So I figure I need something snappier.

I was just about how my friend used to work in the same industry as I'm trying to get into, and it seemed like some of the defence projects like the F-35 they were working on had a lot of red tape, and how they had to navigate through it and communicate with people to get things signed off

I guess re-reading that my answer is kind of shitty.
