Is it a good move? If you can make it happen, yes.
Political Campaigns have long also been a good opportunity to build a personal brand, a publicity stunt, so even if you don't win you've still created brand equity you can parlay into your next or current business.
Just be prepared to deal with the evillest, most self obsessed, hypocritical sacks of shit you could ever imagine sharing a room with: politicians.
