Anyone here with moderate success start off on one career path and end up doing something completely different?
I have a finance degree and work as a business analyst but I find that the minor programming I do is far more fulfilling and elaborate than the routine reports I generate. Is there a niche market for programmers with financial backgrounds?

Not niche, it's necessary and present. Think of all the financial software and in-house projects companies require. And if they're not in-house, then there are companies that specifically exist to provide financial service programming to financial sector businesses. I have two family friends that got into it and do well with financial services programming and IT and shit.
Don't have a response to your question OP but have a question of my own.
I'm a finance grad who took an insurance underwriter job and have been doing it for couple of years. Now I'd like to get back in finance and have plans of moving to Toronto. Idk where to begin ?

I worked in finance for about 3 years before leaving to go into IT. Finance was so fucking boring and not challenging. So far I like what I'm doing

How well do they do? I'm making about 70k right now and I'm at the bottom as far as pecking order goes for this position.

I don't have a ton advice but I just worked my way up. I was doing underwriting too for the auto industry. I would find a good company and just bust your ass. You'd be surprised how many people are complacent and don't give a shit.
Yeah. I majored in Finance, worked in insurance for like 3 months and realized this job was bullshit. Quit, got into web development, now making like 96k.
