My dad had very good experience flipping dog cages. He could buy a big one as little as $10 at a garage sale (might take a while to find one) but then he could easily sell said dog cage for $50+. These are relatively big cages.
flip what you know
i used to sell crap from garage sales, the thing that killed my expenses was fuel costs. sometimes it was prohibitive
I used to make about $1k a year in my spare time here and there, flipping on CL.
Good stuff to flip:
Electronics
Blu Rays
Gaming shit
TV's
Sports equipment
workout equipment
Tools
Just bring you smartphone and look shit up on CL, Amazon, and Ebay before you buy it. Haggle them down.

If you enjoy CL I would personally recommend OfferUp. I have had much better experiences on OfferUp then on craigsList.
