Canada’s steep job losses another blow to struggling economy

Employers eliminated 71,400 full-time positions, the second consecutive month of full-time declines, but 40,200 part-time jobs were created. Meanwhile, the participation rate fell to its lowest level since late 1999, as more people either stopped actively searching for work or stopped working altogether.

Over the first seven months of the year, employers created 12,400 positions, representing the weakest job creation since the Great Recession.

Excellent. Time to hire cheap Canadian labor for my American business. You guys are the new India, right?
>>

>You guys are the new India, right?

Basically, a programmer here makes around 60k(assuming they can even find a job) when in silicon valley they could be making 150k
>>
How much to actually purchase a young, strong male frostback?

Education is not important as I'm slating him for manual labor.

It's hilarious how reliant canadian economy is on oil, they are litereally just like russia. CAD is fucked long term, so is canada.

Oil is going down from now on, wait 10years and it will be $3-10 barrel level till the end. Better start inventing something
>>
>>1428389
Haha your PM sold all your gold!

You can come to Mississippi and be my yard man. I'll let you have your own bedroom and bathroom on my estate. You'll also get rights of first refusal to become my butler once I can acquire more of your kind at a reasonable price.
>>

At first you think there is a crash coming, then again there are no shortages of Chong. Also no where to grow in the Van unlike TO which can sprawl right into cottage country like it sorta of has already. Your call.
>>
>>1428744
what is fresh water
>>
why is the situation so bad? Was the entire canadian economy that closely tied to oil?
>>
>>1428791
Globalization and TFW's

Our manufacturing is gone, our oil is gone and why would any tech companies come to canada when they go south of the border and attract better talent. China and Mexico are cheaper for manufacturing, other countries produce cheaper and more oil and we have literally nothing of value anymore. I have a job here and it's an alright job but I really might just get the fuck out of this country as soon as im done my schooling.
>>
>>1428773
This actually sounds pretty cool. What kind of wage are we talking about here?
>>
>>1428399
Keep in mind it's even a bigger difference because in Canada you make 60k Cad and in silicon valley you'd be making 150k USD. This country is an absolute fucking joke
>>
>>1428828
Housing prices are completely different, you get health care covered, infrastructure is much better, people are more educated, people are less fat, people are more polite, and people are generally less pent up and angry at everything.

If you're gonna make a case for the USA, mention New England, or something better, because Silicon Valley is filled with old people and high prices everywhere.
>>
>>1428842
>get health care covered
Any good job will cover it

>infrastructure is much better
Canadian infrastructure is honestly some of the worst in the western world, i've been to a few other western countries and holy shit does canada suck. Vancouver and Toronto are two of the worst cities in the entire world for traffic

>people are more educated
Which is bad because more competition

>people are less fat
I dont give a shit about what other people eat, food is cheaper in america

>people are more polite
All americans ive met are very polite

>people are generally less pent up
People in Canada are the biggest cynics in the world, always bitching about china or the government or housing prices or jobs or some other shit

Housing is also way way way cheaper in america. Why would I stay in Canada making 60k CAD a year when I can just go south to Portland or Seattle and make 100k+ USD and pay less money for literally everything I buy for the rest of my life
>>
>>1428842
>people are less fat
not by much, Canada's obesity rate is 30.1% compared to America's 35% which has been in decline
>>
>>1428853
Because murrica is evil mmkay?

>>1428821
I bet I could honestly import an impoverished Canadian for like $5 cash an hour + housing.
>>
>>1428853
>Any good job will cover it
Alright, I lost my job and an African American shot me. How much do I pay?

>Canadian infrastructure is some of the worst in the western world... Vancouver and Toronto
Shouldn't judge Canada based on these two cities. Toronto sucks, and Vancouver is crazy expensive.

>More competition
I'll take this if it means I don't have to be surrounded by borderline retards.

>Who cares what other people eat
I do because being fat isn't just a number on a scale. Fat people are generally useless and obnoxious.

>People in Canada are the biggest cynics in the world.
Talk to younger people, and also:
-muh tranny washrooms
-muh gay marriage
-muh police brutality
-muh guns
-muh repubs and muh dems
America is a cultural cesspool because the government doesn't give a shit.

And once again, Portland and Seattle are expensive.

>Shouldn't judge Canada based on these two cities. Toronto sucks, and Vancouver is crazy expensive.

Those two cities are the only places in our country that are even close to relevant though.

Seriously though, what's the best way for a Canadian to find employment in the US? I only have a 2-year CIS diploma from Uni, not a 4 year degree, but I'm willing to work in web dev/software dev or IT for lower wages than American citizens would take. Not looking for poo-tier wages but I'd make a lower wage work and live in a flyover state with low cost-of-living. Are there any good recruiter companies that help Canadians get in touch with American tech companies that want cheaper labour (but still want a white guy who speaks English)?
>>
Just move to glorious Australia.
>>
>>1428953

Canada sucks fuck this country

Also dumb wagecucks. Start a businesses, unemployment is good, more cucks looking for a job which means lower wages
>>
>>1428744
Would've been fine if the yanks hadn't bought and subsequently closed all the refineries. Literally should have all been subsidized just to keep Exxon's greasy hands off.

>>1428842
Preach.

Hey canadabros, come out east ya dumb fucks. Irving alone is hiring hundreds and thousands of people, there's work to go around. Halifax is solid fun day and night, as is St John's (only go to No Funswick if you really must)
>>
PS holy fuck OP those numbers are depressing. Never thought I'd say it but might well head back to Ireland
>>
>>1428995
I thought Ireland was doing pretty well now?
>>
>>1428963
that and vancouver/toronto/calgary are (or should I say were) the only ones that grew appreciably.

all eyes are on kitchener-waterloo at the moment due to google pumping them full of coin. the new infrastructure is attracting major investments from housing companies, but I've yet to see a major increase in actual jobs in the city.

there probably are other quiet investments going on as well. the CAD is weak right now -- american investors would be really fucking smart to get in on this while their dollar carries that extra 25% gravity.
>>
>>1428978
I actually am coming out East anon, I'm driving from Van to Guelph and then Halifax on a whim at the end of the month. I'm a welding apprentice. Will I starve?
>>
>>1429011
>Van to Guelph and then Halifax
that's a really long way, dude

there are lots of motels/hostels along your way, but you might like to detour and stop at the little bed n' breakfasts in side towns along the way. beats heating up pork n' beans on a camp stove or "complimentary breakfast" at hostel.
>>
Anyone here live in York Region?

Who /Newmarket/ here?
>>
>>1429026
I live in Vaughan. It fucking sucks
>>
>>1429552
I have a bunch of friends in Vaughan, it's pretty cool bro. What don't you like about it?
>>
>>1429555
Nothing to do. Only vaughan mills and wonderland which isn't fun IMO. All I do for fun is bus to downsview so I can get out of this city.
>>
>>1429568
At least you're not in Newmarket dude, could be 100x worse
>>
>>1429571
Yea... maybe. I live in concord specifically and all that's in the area is a Tims which is all that everyone i know goes to for "fun." I'm gonna move to Toronto in a year or two so that'll be fun and maybe move to NYC after that
>>
>>1429579
Aware of that feel bro

Newmarket is entirely old people and people with families, worst town in Ontario
>>
Why work when the current government wants to pay me to live? It's actually more profitable to become disabled with some made up illness the government will pay for the medication and the drug companies profit from and I can sit on my ass all day and shit post while making more money than some wage slave working a part time job.
>>
>>1429011
No way man. My newest housemate did the drive in about four days on her own, with all of her worldly possessions.

Halifax is a student town so beware that all the accommodation is being snapped up between now and mid September. If you're not going to leave today, I'd wait until Halloween when there are a few college dropouts around.

Rent is about 500 per month to share, +half months rent deposit.

>welding apprentice
Don't come until you are qualified, ie finish your apprenticeship. Irving will basically hire anyone that interviews well, but they will not look upon you fondly if you have ditched a good thing halfway thru - you'll end up bushing and poor instead.

You could always contact Irving and ask if they are willing to take you on to finish your apprenticeship though.

>>1428999
It is but only in tech, pharma and banking - I'm a geologist, came to Canada to spoil unspoiled wilderness
>>
>>1429774
I'm not ditching anything, as a welder I don't have to sign onto anything here; apprentices just get a logbook and employers sign off on hours in it. Maybe it works differently in BC than out there.
>>
>>1430101
To clarify, I've got my Structural ticket and all position SMAW and FCAW CWBs.

wow, love this thread
'shwa trash here, i saw it all start
when the huge GM crash(and all the subsequent dismantling since) and the enormous supply chain that supported the whole thing, the entire city really
and now it's like some shitty detroit slum where every fucking thing is closed and you're lucky to pick up min wage temp for a few months here and there as tiny companies have a good season here and there...
anyway yeah, was in edmonton right when the layoffs started when the barrel crashed and i called the whle thing then

and then

when there was the huge public auctions of the gigantic dumptrucks and digging equipment and all the giant stuff that you need to do alberta oil

all sold off at like 60% value

everyone jumped ship
there's something like 160k laid off in the province since the oil crash?
that's not 'laid off' when they sold all the equipment that equals your job

big depression coming, no one wants to accept it, but it's about to shtf
>>
>>1434901
Seriously? Thought they were temporarily closing those sites...
>>
I work in a big office setting in Vancouver...whenever we put up job postings for positions about 90% of the applicants are foreigners on temporary visas seeking a way to get a permanent residency. Our immigration system is fucked and a whole lot of people need to fuck off back to their own countries. Canada was okay 20 years ago, now there are too many people running away from Ireland, Brazil, Korea and bunch of other shitty countries trying to come here and take jobs from people who grew up here. I only hire people who can speak English clearly and aren't just looking for a job so they can anchor their ass here in Canada.
>>
>>1435236
I appreciate that you think that way. Gotta take care of our own first.
