Hello, I'm a casual day trader with absolutely no experience in cryptocurrency.
I understand none of the terminology or ideas behind it, I also have no programming experience.
Can someone please explain why there is so much hype over ETH or ETC, or any other non-BTC cryptocoins...?

ethereum is a crypto currency like bitcoin, its main selling point is it can excecute "smart contracts" within the blockchain (ledger) itself. Basically, allowing people to trade, buy, invest, and do business transactions while keeping it transparent.
