Why is there such low demand for lawyers entering the job market? You'd figure how difficult and expensive it is to complete law school that their wouldn't be such a glut of candidates. Should I invest in law school at a mid-top tier university?

Better choice: train as a paralegal.
There are too many lawyers, and they all need six paralegals.

This.
I know quite a few people with JDs. None do law. I believe the bad job market is because of two reasons. First, it's so cut and dried that it attracts the uncreative that just want any decent paying office work.
Secondly, it's been heavily glamorous by tv, which appeal to the easily swayed.
The combo has proven devastating to the industry, flooding it with robotic morons that think they can get six figures for shuffling paper around.
Like anything, though , the big money is in bringing in new business, not in the 'lawyering'. So focus on your sales and maybe you can do ok.
What about becoming a prosecutor?
All these retarded student who get a liberal arts degree realize that they can't get a job. So they go into a shit law school and pile on more debt and they don't come out any better.
If you can't get into the top 14 or whatever it was of law schools, then don't bother. No one will take you seriously
