As a rising sophmore in college all I see are epic networking memes. I know people in school printing out fucking business cards and handing them to whoever looks important
Are they true? Is my only real shot at a good job befriending some suit and hoping he's a nepotist? I'm pretty damn smart, my grades are good and i'm at a nice school. Fuck i'm bad at meeting people though

Shit like that is hella cheesy and only necessary if your friends have some kind of valuable skill or business, which I'm positive they don't.
Networking isn't a meme, but you don't have to force it. Stay good friends with people you feel are smart and responsible. Stay good friends with people that are popular. Respect your teachers, talk to them after class if only for 30 seconds, do your work.
There are so many ways to authentically network in college without waking up and saying "I'm going to dress to the nine, go hand out my shitty business cards, and netwerk1!"
