I know there have been a lot of poorfag get rich quick threads here but does anyone have career or financial advice for someone that has little money and needs to take the next step education-wise?

I've managed to save 20k working at as a shift supervisor and rx cashier at a pharmacy but I don't have a college degree or special work certificate. I know I could take classes to become a certified pharmacy technician but they don't make a lot compared to what I already get in management. It's also becoming apparent at my job that I'm starting to get frustrated with working there, so I've been debating quitting to go to school full-time or finding another job to do part-time while in school.

My options seem limited to programs available at local community college or commuting to a state Uni that would cost 10k a semester. Should I stay in medical/pharm related work or are there other jobs obtainable through community college that I'd be able to make an okay living wage from?

Major in something that has high demand and high pay. Figure out the major requirements, and do as many as you can at a community college.

Transfer to a state University in YOUR state.

Spend 8 hours a day applying for scholarships for a few weeks. You should be able to graduate with little to no debt.

If you absolutely want to go to school and are concerned about financing your education, then federal student loans. Cheap as fuark.

If you're comfortable with the thought of remaining in medical/pharm and perhaps want to entertain the idea of pharmD, MD/DO, PA/AA, DDS, PT/OT, etc., then complete all the science prerequisites at community college and then transfer to your cheapest university that ideally offer one of these programs or even a "gateway" program that may not require a bachelor degree.

These programs only care about high gpa, no matter where obtained, to inflate the statistics of their incoming classes. So, you kill two birds with one stone by attending community college and completing the pre-requisites and paying as little as possible for your education. Just make sure that the credits will transfer to your target university. Better yet, you can normally reach out to university student advisors and graduate program advisors without being an actual student, and they can help map out your educational pathway.

Are scholarships usually available for anyone that's not a current highschool graduate? I feel like I'm at a huge disadvantage because I've been working for a few years instead of staying in school. I had taken a couple classes at a local college previously but I stopped attending after my job eclipsed my life.

None of my immediate family finished or went to college so I've never had any help when it came to job or school advice aside from conversations with my current boss.

I'm really not sure if there's anything I could do without going to college. I've been applying to jobs at local businesses since the beginning of the year and haven't had many responses. I almost got a position at a specialized cafe/store for local produce doing cooking prep and retail but the owner didn't like that I was already being paid above the state minimum wage (I live in Connecticut).

There are a lot of hospitals/emergency clinics in the area along with the casinos. Medical work seems like one of the easiest to do through one of the community colleges because it pretty much guarantees employment after getting certified. The casinos also offer a lot of benefits for employees but to me it's always felt like a last-resort type of place to work.

You should be able to start applying as soon as you fill out your fafsa

Most people are too stupid to get free money, so many scholarships go unclaimed

There are few jobs in healthcare that can be obtained only with community college education, i.e., CNA, EMT, paramedic. Yes, the jobs in these fields are ALWAYS available, but that's only because the turnover rate is very high in these fields. This is due to poor pay disproportionate to the amount of work, crappy hours on the clock, general burnout, low "career" ceiling, and basically being treated like unrespected low-class scum despite the absolute necessity for these workers in society. If sustainability and longevity are important to you, do not plan to subsist on a CNA, EMT, or paramedic certification for your lifetime. Only use those certs. as stepping stones to higher education like the aforementioned graduate degrees or perhaps nursing.

I will let you in on a secret. no BS. If you want to enter healthcare, then "midlevel" practitioners are the future in America in terms of best bang for the buck and the state of healthcare. Go nursing (RN or BSN) into nurse practitioner (DNP). Go physician assistant or anesthesiology assistant if you want to expand your scope in knowledge and responsibility. Go dentistry if you like the thought and are determined enough. Honestly, there is no future for newly minted doctors (MD/DO), pharmacists (pharmD), optometrists (OD), veterinarians (DVN), etc. If all these positions are still too lofty for you, then explore radiologic science degree programs (low stress job with livable wage and benefits; good opportunities for advancement if you're determined enough).

I think it's laziness honestly

I filled out the FAFSA and it says I'll probably be qualified for a $3500 grant and $10k DS loan. That doesn't seem bad for the schools I added on my file.
