The business expense claim for my recent trip adds up to £1234.56 exactly.
Will Finance think I'm being funny?

How long were you on the business trip and what do the expenses entail? If they include lodging and/or airfare, I seriously doubt they're going to question it especially since you have receipts.
I've had expenses of over $3,000 (all legitimate) and have never had a question asked.
The one time I got heat was for a stupid $50 taxi ride for which I did not have receipt.
So long as you have receipts and the expenses you incur are considered reasonable, they have to pay.
Yeah, now you can crack a joke with the accounting lady, what's the problem?

I don't crack jokes, i am the Serious Man. I wouldn't want anyone to think I am in any way whimsical.

Are you autistic? Not having a sense of humor is considered a bad quality everywhere.

There may be a time and place for whimsy but not at work.
