Is starting a YouTube channel a worthwhile investment?
I stopped giving a shit about Youtube a few years ago when I graduated highschool and stopped playing video games. But apparently the kids making videos now are making millions of dollars a year for just whining about things on top of some gameplay footage
Have these people just won the internet lottery or is there more to it?
The ones I follow certainly aren't making millions of dollars a year: Sargon, Milo etc.
becoming successful on youtube is about as likely as you becoming a well-paid hollywood celebrity
similarly to becoming a successful creative person, you can't think about the success, you have do it because it's your passion
I have hearing some mid tier (500k subs) youtubers saying that the money is in sponsorships now. Subs and views don't pay like they used to a few years ago.

Patreon and affiliate links make a shit load. There's a reason every podcast shills audible, they get $3 for every free sign up.
1 million views is equal to 1-3k monthly
