Will we ever see the emergence of a strong financial services union? It seems with the growing financialization of the world, the growth of the financial sector, the profits of these companies, and the shitty treatment of the lower level employees, it seems ripe for one

No, everyone is thinks they are capable to get more utility by negotiating themselves than through collective bargaining.

They also know that they would price themselves out of the market. The non-union workers will be less expensive. Financial services is extremely competitive and price sensitive.

Lastly, financial services hate regulations. They would essentially be imposing more regulations on themselves to comply with.

>>just my two cents.

> Union workers collective bargain for higher wages in an industry
> Industry collapses under weight of artificial & arbitrary costs
> Union workers ignore their own near sighted greed and blames big bad CEO

Well done 'merica

Gee, my company has had unions for the last 135 years and it's still in business.

Guess that kind of proves you wrong, huh?

Basically companies can attempt to offshore more jobs, but there would be such a back lash against it from customers that it could affect profits more than if they would just slightly increase wages for their employees IMO. Most of these institutions are totally backed by the federal government so a collapse ala the automotive and steel industries is unlikely.
